I just bought a shotgun from a local store. It is a high standard riot shotgun. Holds 6 in the mag one in the tube. I must say it is the smoothest action pump gun I have ever used. I heard police and prisons used to use them. Anybody out there have some info on these guns? I heard they were made from the 60s to the 70s.

you are absolutely right about the smooth action on high standard shotguns . some of the riot short barrel long mag tube guns were marked with the words riot gun on the barrel and others were not as i have seen them both ways . i know of one such gun and it has a factory pistol grip but i have had no luck getting the owner to part with it .the high standard shot gun was designed by Fred humeston who originally worked for Winchester and was largely responsible for the design of the m1 carbine . the riot gun was originally a field gun from the early fifties and sold by sears under the jc higgins name and later as the flite king as a high standard gun .riot guns were first manufactured in 1962 with twenty inch barrels and five round mag capacity .later versions were 18 inch barrels and six round magazines about 1965 . some have rifle sights and others a plain bead . they were very successful as police shotguns and were the first on the market to commercially build a short shot gun as a police special.
