Nikon Monarchs 8x42, you should be able to find new ones for $250ish. I've been very happy with mine. They are functional, and light-ish, around 21oz I believe. Be careful that you don't go too small, you will sacrificing low light performance. I also avoid focus free binoculars, as your eyes get older they aren't so great. For the $$ they will be very hard to beat.

Just a thought
You will get more game if you can see it
Lesson well learned a pair of cascade leapolds
For around 350 can see great and I get what everyone missed

Cheers

Sail in Ottawa has very good prices on older model Nikon Monarchs. Paid $200.00 yesterday for a pair of 8X32 that was $329.00 regular price. They are waterproof and very clear. I don't know if you can mail order from Sail.
