Hey Guys,

I really don't know much about the difference in AR's and am trying to learn. What makes one AR $1,000 and another $1,800?

Who are the higher end AR Makers? If I get one I don't want it to be a piece of $hit. I'm not going to spend $2,000 on the rifle but I don't want a piece of junk either. I'd probably pay around $1,350 for an AR. I was looking at the Diemaco's and I know from a guy I know that has one that they are a nice, tight fitting AR. What would compare in quality to the Diemaco's?

Spikes Tactical?
Noveske?
Colt USA?

Thanks for the help guys. Also wondering what's better gas impingement or piston driven.

For your $1350 price range, one name... Daniel Defense.
$1800 ish then Colt Diemaco, Colt USA.
$2200+ Noveske, VLTOR, LMT, Knights Armament, Christiansen Arms.
Less than $1000. Just about everything else.

So a Colt Diemaco is better than a DD, and a Noveske is better than a Colt Diemaco? If so why is that?

Herein lies the crux of the matter! Supply and demand and the varying USD.
Colt Canada lays claim to better accuracy due to the barrel, Colt USA is good but they've been making ARs forever and DD is every operators's dream gun. Noveske has a reputation for high end ARs due to their "field" experience.
Think about comparing BMW, Mercedes and Audi. +/- a few hundred $ between the 3 rifles. All good, which is better depends on who you talk to. IMO, DD, CC, Noveske and CUSA are fairly comparable. I don't think an average user can tell the difference, except maybe the trigger pull.
I have a VLTOR which is a $2000+ gun and a CUSA AR. The Colt so far is problem free. My high end AR, as you put it, has been causing me grief lately!

Get a diemaco/colt Canada IUR.

DD if you're tight on money or you want to be able to cross the boarder with it, 16"+

Everything else is overpriced, junk or both.

.

Little bit of an over generalization don't you think?

Unless you build it, you probably won't get a better rifle than a Daniel Defense in your price range.

Windham is also good for your stated price range. but I'd pony up the extra few hundred and get your self either a CC or DD.

Or you can join the club and get a KAC SR 25 and call it a day

So, if he pays $1000 or $1800 is he going to see a difference in accuracy?
what type of accuracy should he expect from either price range?

Absolutely my $989 Windham weaponry does not shoot as good as my 2K DD which does not shoot as good as my 3500 KAC.

So yes you get exactly what you pay for

For the most part you will not. Price doesn't affect accuracy as much as it affects materials used etc.

You could build a very cheap bull barrel AR15 that will shoot sub MOA.

I was fishing to see if you guys would say a group size.
Trying to figure out if the older Bushmaster I bought for $1000 was a good buy or not lol.
16" bull, free floated barrel. Was all original until I put on the free float tube.
shoots way tighter than the MR1 I had or any mini-14 I ever owned.

Whats a decent group size out of a basically stock .223?

I agree... JP.
