If a lever is right of center is that an indication of hinge pin wear on a sxs shotgun? Also what does it cost to have a hinge pin replaced or repaired on a english shotgun?

Right of center indicates the gun is probably still tight. They are usually built to start right of center to allow a wear factor. As they wear they move to center and then left of center. Hinges and underbolts should always be lubricated with light grease rather than oil as the grease has a better cushion effect and is less likely to be squeezed or wiped away as they are operated.

Once they are left of center and loose it may or may not require more than just a hinge pin to ensure a long lasting repair. Occasionally under bolts and Greener type cross bolts also need replacement to be sure they are doing their job properly and not allowing excess stress on the hinge.

Thanks stocker I was looking at one and the lever is left of center and the guy told me left is good right is an indication of wear.

I've had guns with the lever left of center and just replacing the top lever fixed it too. Of course this was a lower end gun, one with a greener cross bolt or the like probably wouldn't wear out the top lever, in this case it was a stevens 311. I've read that sometimes just removing the hinge pin, rotating it 180 degrees and replacing it sometimes will fix the problem too. Basically you find a unworn part of the pin to become the wear point.

And I'm with these guys left of center indicates wear, right is new, unless the lever is pushed to the left to open, I've never seen that.
