Hinged Vs Magazine.

I prefer the floor-plate, having had some problems with detachable mags in the past. That's not to say that they are all junk though, I have detachables in Anschutz, Browning, Remington and Tikka that work perfectly. I particularly like the Sako but that is partly because I use it as a top-feed.

Is there any rimfires with a hinged floorplate?

No, but there are quite a few with tubular magazines. Not the same thing I realize but similar issue as the hinged floorplate.

Personally, for the hunting I do, I prefer a detachable mag. I happily use rifles with blind mag, hinged floorplate and detachable mag so its not really a huge issue, only a convenience/preference one.

YMMV.

I have no preference between a detachable mag or hinged floorplate, although I haven't had the opportunity to lose a mag yet... ;) What I would find a little annoying is a rifle with a blind magazine, where the only way to unload is by cycling the action, so I have ruled out a lot of Savage rifles in my quest to buy a .30-06. Of course now they have introduced some new hinged floorplate models which I will take a look at once they arrive at the stores.

While nearly all my expereince with hinged floorplates are on milsurps, I would go with a detachable magazine any day. Much easier to unload quickly, or keep loaded and stored according to law. Also, I find some of the hinge designes are finnicky and quite irritating. I'm sure on a high dollar hunting rifle some of these issues are mitigated, but I like magazines anyways :D

Sure a lot easier to drive down the bush road to where you are going to hunt with the unloaded rifle leaning against the seat, and the loaded mag beside it. You guys know you seldom see a moose when the gun is loaded.

Floorplate..

Hinged floorplate.... wish my Tikka's had them, too.... :bangHead:

Hinged floorplates/blind mags for my hunting rifles. Nothing to misplace/forget  and feeding is reliable. I've also owned Browning lever rifles and their clips (removable magazines) are excellent :D At home I could care less. As long as I can drop one in the pipe when in a hurry to kill something, be it a bear in the horse pasture or coyotes near the chicken coop

I prefer the convenience of a detachable magazine. It's pain to play around with loose shells all day. Carry an extra mag in your hunting pack just in case you misplace it.

After seeing detachable magazines fall out in water puddles and deep, soft snow after the first shot was fired, I am convinced they are a liability, so prefer hinged floorplates on my centerfires. Rimfire is a non-issue, detachables are OK there. I have also seen several cases of lost magazines (some very expensive to replace!) at the worst possible times. Another objection I have for detachables is the lint, dust, grit and crap they seem to accumulate if carried in a pocket. I don't care for that stuff in the chamber of my rifle. Some detachable systems are true abortions as well (someone mentioned the Kwik-Klip conversions and I would add the Browning A-bolt design as well as any detachable that has a release so small that it cannot be readily released when one has gloves on) Regards, Eagleye.

Mags

I prefer the hinged floor plate on commercial forearms, but detachable mags in military.
The only exception would be the Ruger Mini 14 which is solid and uses the military systen of lock up on the mags.

I have a Steyr SSG 69 P2 and the mags for that really suck even the 10 rounders.

Used both for so long it just does not make a difference to me, a clip is easy, quick but it only takes 2 secs to hit the floor plate button. and reloading is about the same!
So for me it really has no bearing on the firearm i buy!

What i do like is the stream line plate vs the detach, each is to there own!
