Hirtenberger 7.62x51FMJ (.308) any good for accuracy?

I crimped a handful of these rounds using a 308 seating die and got sub moa accuracy. They have never shot this good for me until now. I'm going to repeat the crimping with a bunch more and hopefully it continues.

IIRC, these rounds (like most, if not all surplus Nato rds) have a tar-like material sealing the bullet to the case neck. Over time, these seals dry out to varying degrees--resulting in inconsistant "pulls". When I pulled some of these rounds, some came off easily, and others took some effort. Maybe this is why things have improved so much for you--you've broken the inconsistent seals and the "pull"is now more uniform.

Yes, neck tension consistency was the goal. Especially with boat tail bullets seated no where near the lands.
These bullets had a cannelure so that was the hint that this might be effective. And yes to that black glue on the bullets, I think you can see it on the bullet that I pulled in a previous pic.

Yes, I bought a lee factory crimp for these and the accuracy improved again
A pic of the lee crimp, roll crimp and the factory Hirtenberger round.

My groups went from 1.5 -2" to about an inch. Some under. From a kimber Longmaster bolt gun.
I have been plinking rocks and silhouettes lately but will shoot some more paper soon.

Shot 6 rounds today into paper
First three as they come from the factory
Second three crimped with a Lee factory crimp die
100yrds, 10-20 kph winds
