Hirtenberger ammo

It is good ammo. Made to NATO spec, even if Austria is not part of NATO. I honestly forget if it is Berdan or Boxer primed. The first is instant scrap brass, the latter is an investment.

I've shot off about 800 rds of this stuff. Boxer primed, reloadable, and probably the best 7.62 NATO Ball ammo out there for reloading for the M-14. This is what I used to test M-14 rifles, and I had a Mauser 98 heavy barrel that put 5 shots into 3/4". My DCRA barreled Savage 110 C , however, would only get 2" groups.

Of course,
YMMV

You didn't say what caliber or type, seems everyone is assuming you're shooting milsurp. I have used some Hirtenberger 7x57R in my Merkel combination gun. It shot well, and was loaded with good bullets - Nosler Partitions. It was Berdan primed though, and also had some kind of asphalt cement between the bullet and neck, a black tar-like stuff. The tar didn't seem to affect accuracy, but I didn't like the idea of the bullet dragging some of it down the bore.

It's .308/7.62x51 Got it for $8.00 a box. I figured it was worth a try.

Dave.

Some have said that they had berdan (non-reloadable) brass in 7.62 though I have only seen boxer stuff myself.

I have about 800 spent casings of this stuff set aside, and of the thousand I fired I had no problems with it.
