HK 416, kinda heavy

So if i through a lower on the bottom, and in semi-auto only would i then be able to bring it over the boarder after registering and everything else?

Only if you use a licensed exporter, and ONLY if the US State Department accepts the export request.

No matter how much you want to, its illegal to just take a gun (or gun part) you bought in the US into Canada. Now if its really worth the risk to you, you could always try and sneak it in, but this is HIGHLY dangerous and could result in jail time if you are caught at the US border.

Like I said, ANY rifle with a barrel under 16 inches is considered to be an NFA Item in the Unites States, and prohibited for export.

The ONLY way to do it, would be to get a PISTOL registered lower (I think Rock River Arms does this?) and put the 10.5" 416 upper onto the pistol lower. IF it arrives in Canada you can put it onto any lower your heart desires, BUT, I would be very doubtful that the US State Department would consider the request.

HOWEVER, there's really no way for them to know there is a 416 upper on it, unless its inspected in some way.... For example, Questar got or has some RRA Pistol AR15's. You could also try and bring your own into the USA (with proper registration. Takes a few months, and im not sure if an M4-pistol would be okayed for import back into the USA) and put the 416 upper on it in the USA, then bring it back when you come back. You would lose your existing upper though. Just make sure its a PISTOL registered lower, since you cant bring a short barreled rifle back. Even rifle barrels under 16" (by themselves) are no-go.

But the pistol lower is your only option for getting a short barreled rifle in. Unless you weld or blind-pin and weld a 6 inch flash hider or barrel extension on, but the pistol method would be the easiest route.

You would also need to make sure that the flash suppressor is a "muzzle brake" and there are no other prohibited-for-export items on it.

In any case, the costs for doing all this stuff is going to be much less than just buying an MR223, but what the heck, I dont think anybody's tried the "Pistol Lower" route before.

There are no MR556 available yet....these are the US version of the MR223. They will also come with the 16.5" barre, etc. The MR556 will be made in the US.....not German made like our beloved MR223!!!!!LOL

Daniel Defense is doing their rail and Wilcox is doing the barrel, the rest I am not sure......some parts are going to be from HK Germany as well.

The MR556 will still be a very good rifle. The US will probably see the MR556 in late summer......there has been one delay after another with this project. The MR762....US made MR308 .......has been delayed indefinately...probably not going to see it stste side for at least a year or more...

I believe DD is making the barrels for the MR556

bo-hoo. 8 lbs. Hit the gym buddy.

I bet a standard AR with flashlights, free-floating handgaurds, rail covers, lasers, heavy profile rings, magnifiers, red-dots, front grips, angle mounts, muzzle breaks, weighs a hell of a lot more than 8 lbs, and nobody is complaining about that.

So 556s are coming to the US... but didnt they restrict export of 556 chambered rifles? Or am I just misinformed.

I read somewhere (perhaps not so well) that you can only get 223 as export of 556 was restricted by DOD. (?)
