End of August, Heckler & Koch, the order of several hundred systems originally DMR762 ("Designated Marksman Rifle / Scope Rifle 7.62mm x 51) designated weapon of the German armed forces to deliver.
The G28 is a military version of civilian Match Rifle MR308. The approximately 980 mm long gun weighs just under 7900 grams ready for the 420 mm long tube is chrome plated, which adds to durability and precision. Together with the specially provided ammunition "7.62 mm x 51 DMR" and the new Schmidt & Bender Rifle Scope 3-20x56 is the new weapon, a significantly better precision - Objective 1.5 arcmin (Minute of Angle / MOA; corresponds to a scattering circle of approximately 45 mm to 100 feet) - to achieve. The fight is 600 meters distance, appropriate targeting agents for the fight night to ensure they reach in the dark. A red dot sight - the Aimpoint Micro T1 - sits on the fight for shorter distances as the "backup" on the IF. Another innovation is the color: The gun and the telescopic sights come in the color green brown (RAL8000). This has proved a worldwide universal camouflage. Heckler & Koch also offers a conversion kit, with the G28 can be field converted into a moderately shorter and lighter version patrol. (Ww)

1.5MOA is a rather low standard for this kind of rifle.

As a DMR, I think 1.5MOA is sufficient. Of course it can't hurt to be more accurate, but relative to other DMR or DMR style rifles in use in the world, 1.5MOA is well above average.

Imagine trying to hump that around up and down a rocky mountain or lugging it around street to street.

Interesting that the barrel is chrome lined. The HK417 (chromed barrel) failed a previous German selection trial due to lower than acceptable accuracy.

Civilian MR308 is a HK417 variant that is not chrome lined. Non chromed barrels are typically more accurate so I assumed that was why they went with a MR308 variant. Apparently not.

It looks a little under accessoried... Perhaps if they took a closer look at the layout, they could add more $h1t to it... WoW...

What would you leave off if you were fighting with this at night? It's not a DMR but here is a photo of the USMC M27 IAR (basically a 16.5" HK416):

Bipod, VFG, scope, red dot, illuminator. No NV for scope since, well, it's not night.

G28:
Bipod, VFG, Scope, red dot, illuminator of some type. NV for scope since it is configured for night use.

I guess they could have went with a Docter RDS to save a couple of ounces, but having owned one I can see why they went with the aimpoint. Lighter scope possibly but they obviously wanted more magnification for target ID. Shooting farmers instead of insurgents is considered bad form by the Germans I guess.

Could skip all the CQB stuff (RDS, VFG, illuminator), but then if stuff starts happening at close range the user would be at a significant disadvantage. Hauling it along is certainly a defensible choice.

I need the extended rail for my MR308??????????????????

Blaxsun?????????????????????????????????Where are you??????????????????????
