HK Importation?

Bare with me if this is a beaten topic.

As most Canadian firearm aficionados know, there are a few rare Heckler & Koch products floating around out there. Such as variants of the G36, which I am unsure if they come in non-restricted, and the MP7. They often have undesirable(for the buyer) price tags and are very hard to find. My big question is, why are their so few of them? Is the breakdown at HK or at our border?

If HK doesn't want certain guns out to civilians, why do some exist in our hands at all? Has anyone talked to HK about the subject?

Very interested as well. I have handled a few HK products and they were all very quality products that were superior to many other brands in nearly all ways.
 
well part of the problem is HK germany (where all the legal imports come from not the usa grey market guns) has very strict rules on certaine firearms being used for anything else but law enforcement and military , take the hk45 for example it is now agrey market firearm it use to be produced at the hk plant in germany but the production was moved to the usa plant and companys like HK,CZ, SIG SAUER, beretta and most other international gun companys where allowed to set up production . but on one condition from the D.O.J (department of justice) the could not export out of the usa . these guns come in to canada from other companys who purchase them usa side with an end user certificate then export them to canada legal but not really, another problem with that is warranty has to be done in the usa, so if you buy one of these grey market sigs,czs or hk and try to get warranty her in canada by fn sports, inland etc.. you kind of S.O.L what you can do is buy a sl8 and do the convesion as for the mp7 that one is beyond me
 
What about active duty military members, do we qualify for procurement even with no intent to use for work purposes? I know your then not permitted to sell it without letting the ATF or DOJ know who it was sold to which is also supposed to be MIL or LEO. Or must it be purchased by the government for DND purposes?

If they're sold to the military They can’t sell them to civilians it’s a German Law. It’s legal to do so in many countries Canada being 1 of them but because of the German law the manufacture gets in trouble for it. Now if they're made in a factory outside German then they can sell them to anyone. Some people have imported them then lost the rights to do is since they sold them to regular people and HK is really funny when it comes to stuff like that

They require end user certificates saying who will own it for what purpose and what will happen to it at the end of life ie destroyed. Often they can't sell them
 
Some of the ones in civilian hands were backdoor resold from film production companies with the proper EUC. But HK isnt keen of letting that happening again.

If it is legal to do here why doesn't Diemaco? It seems to me they are needlessly missing out on sales in the domestic civilian market and I can't figure out why they would do that.
 
Some of the rules are due to German laws, some are due to Canadian laws.

Germany won't allow export of non-sporting firearms, similar to the USA, although in some regards germany is a little more lenient on what they consider "sporting".

We have the G36's, UMP's, and MP7's because of Law Enforcement agencies OR movie companies selling off semi-only versions after they're done with them.

Unfortunately laws were changed here that forbid the sales of firearms from law enforcement agencies to civilians, they could only destroy them, or transfer them to another agency.

So alas we have a handful of the fun stuff but no more unless Germany was able to change their laws on export.

Yes the HK issue truly sucks. Especially when the G36 series goes to LE for about 1,500 USF a copy new. Contrast that with the high 4 figure to low 5 figure pricing in Canada. El Sucko!
 
Colt Canada (Diemaco) has a contract with the Federal government saying they won't sell to Canadian civilians. Any bits and pieces in country had to be exported and then re-imported.
 
Re: Colt Canada (Diemaco) - because the government says they can't sell to Canadian civillians - they're not missing out on much, just because everyone and his cousin on CGN has an AR, doesn't mean they're in huge demand in Canada as a whole. It is sometimes possible to find CC products for sale in Europe, though not lately.
