HK MR223 hitting the market in May 2008

Yes. But wouldn't this be analogous to say the SG 550 rifles and their semiautomatic variants all be being prohib?

No because SG550 is model named on the original prohib list, not some FRT decision based on being full-auto. Also SG550 came in factory semi models.

A seni Hk416 will be restricted as a M16/AR variant - the upper fits on AR lowers - end of story.

The 417 is its big brother and will no doubt get done in by the same logic that got the current AR10 rifles, the SR25, and other .308 variants.

As for the 418 -- 6.8 has not made a big spalsh -

Actually Kevin, my brother's girlfriend has a friend in Iraq and he said that the US Army is getting complaints about insurgents getting hit with multiple rounds and not going down. The fact is that 5.56 is not ballistically sufficient to be a combat rifle.

Apparently he would switch to 6.8SPC in a second, and to be honest I'll believe him sooner that someone who has never been in a combat zone before.

;)

lol
I was more reflecting on the no civilian released MR68 or whatever they would call it.
FWIW the 6.8 is still alive and kicking with 5SFG and a few others who refuse to let it die.

The military won't be getting away from the 5.56 for a loooong time.

My grandma's sister's son has a cousin who has a friend that knows this guy that once talked to a soldier in Iraq.....

Just kidding. :D

They should switch to 30mm.

I have thought of that. 9mmx19 is a piss weak excuse for a round with no stopping power. I have been told by a pretty authorative source* that concerns over the lack of tank-stopping power by the Beretta M9 have resulted in some elite US units switching to OD Green Desert Eagles firing AP rounds in 50AE.

* The guy who told me this knows his stuff - he's watched Black Hawk Down 13 times.

this IS my safety.

I'm holding out for the civie HBAR FN SCAR in 7.62 . Last rag I read stated that it should be available in late '08 with multiple barrel lengths as options. With HK's rep of total disregard of the private consumers I'll GLADLY buy from FN. So here I sit..... keeping my fingers crossed (but not really holding my breath)

Regards,

The guns would be coming straight from Germany - so we wouldn't get the US/CAN exchange rate anyway..

on the upside, we should be able to get all the barrel versions (SHORTIES) without the retarded US laws getting in the way!! :)

I think its popularity will depend solely upon its restricted/nonrestricted status. Just my opinion/$.02.

If unrestricted, count me in, it will complement my Mark 23 nicely:D

Talking to Larry Vickers face to face this weekend - I would not hold out high hopes for the MR series guns being a Hk416. He is still a Hk consultant - and part of the 416 parents

Hk's US production with be called the HK223 and Hk308 -- and will be more similar to the 417/416 series -- however in 16" + barrel lengths. US Mil and LE guns will still be German made Hk416's

Several suspect that someone in Hk is trying to scuttle the 416.
