I got the chance to to talk the HK commercial sale rep today. I brought up the question as to why HK did not chromeline their barrels for MR223.

Well, apparently they have just started doing it. Quietly, HK has put chromelined barrels on MR223A3 and MR308A3! I was shown the HK germany website, yes, they are now listed on the website as chromelined! This website was just updated weeks ago.

In short, the current production of the following rifles have chromelined barrels:

MR223A3
MR308A3
HK243

The SL8 still does not have chromelined barrel, but there is a price drop.

Only the Europeans MR223/308A3 have chromelined barrels. The US version MR556 will not have chromelined barrels, because they are finished in the US.

And HK is listening to Canada, because apparently Canada is a market they expect big growth. I will expect interesting things from HK coming our way.

well HK will need to get a 18.5 inch barrel on that hk243 and lobby the rcmp lab classification for fairness and expediency (which the rcmp lab does neither) if they want big growth in Canada.

Just caught this over on HK PRO last night, it's gonna make a lot of US folks jealous, that's for sure.
I'm hoping HK delivers, not too quickly as I have to "pad" the bank account with more money, LOL

Thanks GT

And I saw 14.5" MR223A3 and 16.5 MR308A3 patrol version in country and shown in the distributor show. Hate to say that, there is no reason to pay 9000 for the older version of HK416 semi if you want a shooter. In the past, the hardest thing to swallow about the MR was the non-chromelined barrel. Now, it is really just a HK416 with some rather minor differences that don't matter.

I hope the 14.5" MR223A3 sell well, so they will see the potential to look into 11" version for Canada only.

Also, they are looking into a 18.5" version of 9mm USC. Unfortunately, they can't do 18.5" USC in 45 ACP because of technical issue related to the blow back system and the pressure of 45 ACP.

I saw the pics and I agree, however until today who knew, if you were like me, you buy it now since it may not be there tomorrow.
I did like what I saw though, plus all the features of the A5, so it's a very nice rifle. I wouldn't mine getting a lower??? if that becomes an option.

Buy a MR for training, and only use the 416 for annual qualification. :)

If you have paid attention to the North Sylva's forum, that is already done awhile ago. The Canadian version will be using commonly available AR mags.

Let me say again and spell this out for you all in one sentence, HK will be (definitely) building a 18.5" HK243 that takes AR mags for the Canadian market. It will be available as soon as it is approved.

On top of that, there will be a 9mm non-restricted USC.

This means everything HK makes, ie, MR223A3, MR308A3, SPF-9, HK243, USC, SL8 are either available right now or will be available down the road.

I don't really want to purchase product from a company that can't make a rifle shoot straight (G36)
Joking...just want to bug the HK fans on here.

Looks like good news. Maybe if I start saving my pennies now I can afford one in a year or two!

OH God Greentips...I hope you are not teasing us Canucks!!

Also you said-- "Also, they are looking into a 18.5" version of 9mm USC. Unfortunately, they can't do 18.5" USC in 45 ACP because of technical issue related to the blow back system and the pressure of 45 ACP."

I thought there are already some 18.5 45ACP USC's in Canada....do they not shoot or cycle well? are the factory or aftermarket barrels?
