HK MR308 good price

I don't want to discourage anyone from actually buying one of these, and converting them to NR, but I just want all the rose-coloured BS to leave this thread.

Be prepared for the fight, it will be on your door-step in short order.

i cant afford it like most people, but if i was rich and it was the difference between trying to get it non-res and it staying restricted, i would give it a try.

if we dont try the only direction we are going is backwards.

Me thinks I see the issue here
dizzy;4988326[I said:
]...The point I was making on pistols is a mere .25 of an inch makes one legal for most the other legal and in fact the legal one is more lethal. [/I]

The issue here is that a 1/4 inch, or mm for that matter, is making an otherwise restricted firearm prohibited. Stupid but valid if that's the law. However your position is you want to take a restricted firearm and make it non restricted by extending the barrel. However this firearm is to my knowledge and never was non-restricted to begin with, so it unfortunately doesn't quite work that way in opposite. If it had been classified non and shortened with a barrel change a return to above 18.5 wouldn't be such and issue.

Now, all that said if the following is true;

Just to let it be said, the Business FRT states, under the "HK MR" rifle in .223Rem, .308win, 5.56mm, and 7.62NATO (You read that right, there is only an "MR" rifle in the FRT, MR223 and MR308 are classed as variants of the "MR" rifle, NOT AR-15's), that the legal classification is "Restricted", under the legal authority of "CC 84(1) "restricted firearm" para. (b)", specifically:
"restricted firearm" means

(b) a firearm that
(i) is not a prohibited firearm,
(ii) has a barrel less than 470 mm in length, and
(iii) is capable of discharging centre-fire ammunition in a semi-automatic manner,

Therefore you COULD, IN THEORY, add a 18.5" barrel, and have it verified as non-restricted.

You may get away with it for as long as it takes the CFC to run across the street to the RCMP lab... it would last about 30 seconds or 30 feet from when you go through it all for them to pressure a judge to tow the line and change the classification. And at the end just hope they don't wholesale prohib it like much of the tastier HK faire just to be petty (and the courts can be petty. Can't have the serfs making the law now can we;))

From an law enforcement standpoint they simply will not be put in the situation where they have to mobilize the ERT teams for a takedown every time some slackjawed idiot calls it an "emergency" from seeing what appears to be an 'AR' when the poor serfs are just out shooting cans with thier kids. Bad press all round.

Again, I say fill your boots cowboy. I'm all in right behind you if it works. You even get a tip of the hat for your efforts. Just hard to see this working, for very long anyway. But if you listen to my wife I have a long and well documented history of being very wrong.:D

Here's an idea, give the CFO a call and ask.
I found the supervisor here in BC to be quite direct and helpful with answering my questions.

Here's the contact if you want to give it a try

Stephen Cojuco, CFO supervisor BC

I know it's not the same as the CFC but they do have some knowledge on these issues.

I will do what I do, its obvious its not worth sharing with other gun nutz. all the best.

If you really didn't care, you would've stopped posting. You know, KNOW, that if you get a new barrel and get it reclassed as non-restricted, the first thing you'll do is come on CGN and gloat. V:I:

And rightfully so.:D Nothing beats the sweet, sweet savour going against the grain, having it work your favour and getting to poke someone else in the forehead braying 'I told you so'.

However it's just like my a-hole... I can't see it. But that shouldn't stop someone with deep pockets from trying. It'd be nice to be able to afford to challenge all of the laws that are put to paper on a whim. There's a case to be made and if you can afford to make it happen for everyone else be the hero I'd say. I wish I had the cash to piddle away or I might just make a run at it myself?

Deer season with a MR308... even for a week until they slammed the door shut, might just be worth it:D
