Hello everyone,

I've been contemplating getting either a HK P2000 or Sig P229 Elite in .40 S & W. I currently own a Sig P220 and a HK USP so I know they are both excellent products. I want to get a smaller gun to add to my collection. I'm interested in getting an additional barrel chambered in .357 Sig so that is why I have chosen these 2 guns. Has anyone had the opportunity to shoot both guns? What are your impressions? Help me decide which one to get. Thanks very much.

Man, talk about BMW or Mercedes. I have shot the Sig quite extensively but I really can't see you going wrong with either gun dude...do what I do, buy both then bin one later, it's the only way to be sure.

It's a tough choice, as they are both excellent guns. Since you already have a USP and a P220, you know the advantages and disadvantages of both platforms (the P2000 and P229 are not that much different from their older brothers), so choose whatever you like better.

Buy a Glock....:stirthepot2:

Either one is good. In my experience you'll find parts and accessories for the SIG are much easier to come by than the HK stuff.

Had a chance to shoot the P2000 when I was thinking about getting one just a few weeks ago and I'm glad I didn't. I far prefer the Sig 229. If we lived in a province (or Country for that fact) with CCW's then yea, I'd go with the P2000 for concealability but between the 106mm barrel and the fact that you're not going anywhere with it outside of a locked container it defeats the purpose.

HK P2000 vs Sig P229

I'm not all that concerned about the weight issue. As you say we do not have CCW here and will probably never get it. I'm more interested in which one shoots better.

I own the P229 and the P2000, both in 9mm. I find the P229 is quite a bit more comfortable to shoot, and more gratifying in terms of the results.

Having said that, the P2000 is really "neat" and I wouldn't want to sell mine or stop shooting it. It's the kind of gun that you can just sit there and admire the engineering built into it.

The big difference between the guns is the weight. P229 is around 32 ounces. P2000 is more like 24 ounces. It may not sound like much difference, but it is. P229 is a very smooth non-recoiler. P2000 is a bit on the snappy side, even in 9mm. In .40S&W or .357SIG, it is going to give the shooter a workout in the controllability area.

I find that I get fantastically consistent accuracy with the P229, whether shooting fast or slow. Shoot it slow, it shoots almost target-gun style groups. Shoot it fast and put all the bullets in the desired area in a hurry.

P2000, it is good too, but it is not going to inspire the same confidence in your abilities that the P229 will.

Another issue is parts. P229 is easy to get every part for. Brownells carrys everything, including 10 round mags and you can get them to Canada two at a time. P2000, I have yet to find a source for parts other than the distributor, and that is basically a bust in Canada. Wolverine can try and get stuff for you, but it seems challenging. I ahve been trying to get three mags, and five extended floorplates for 10 round mags for 5 or 6 months. Nothing yet. P229 I can get whatever I want into the mail by tomorrow and to my door by next week. That is a real bonus if you are going to shoot the gun a lot, because all guns have parts occasionally break or wear out - even the mighty SIG and HK.
