The manual that comes with the HK P7M8 says that the barrel is 105mm in length. The CFC website says that all handguns with barrels of 105mm or less are prohibited.

How did the P7M8 become classified as restricted? Not complaining :p Just curious.

Some have been measured as 106mm for one reason or another. Can be manufacturing tolerances, for example. It also depends on how you measure. Often the CFC method and manufacturing method of measuring differs.

I have been told the barrels are just over 105mm.

The CFC rules say you round up all measurements so 105.x mm becomes 106.0 mm.

The specs on the P7 series say it has a 105mm barrel, but because of manufacturing tolerances, most are actually just OVER 105mm; since the current law says that anything with a barrel equal to or less than 105mm is prohibited, even if a given barrel happens to be 105.00001mm, it would be legal, while one that measures 105mm on the nose would be prohib. Since they don't have any way to denote that a given barrel is actually (for argument's sake) 105.3mm long, that gets rounded up to 106mm, since it's measurably LONGER than 105mm. There are even some (nominal) 4"/102mm S&W revolvers out there that actually have barrels that are long enough to fall into the "restricted" class, but unless someone measures them, no-one will ever know about them.

When I first bought my P7M8,CFC classified it prohibited. Used my electronic vernier calipers and found the barrel to be (avg. of 10 measurements) 105.26mm. Took it to a local verifier and within 3 weeks had the pistol re-classified as restricted. Good Luck.

I think the barrel lengths were simply rounded up/down by the old police registrars. I have a couple small arms books that show them as being 107mm, and every gun I have ever seen had a 107mm barrel.

Does every single P7 have to be measured individually? I too have seen some that were prohibited. There was one in amazing shape on the forums, with 6 mags, for $1400 a couple of months ago. But, the damn thing was registered as prohibited. It just killed me to not be able to buy it. In any case, some lucky guy got it.
