Hello all, I noticed my pistol collection is missing a striker fired pistol.
I used to own a Glock 22 with 9 mm barrel and a Walther P99. Sold both for other pistols that caught my fancy. Now I want to try another striker pistol.
Any recommendations, pros and cons of the ones mentioned above?
Thanks for any input.

The M&P does not really compete between these two in my experience. The HK and Walther PPQ are much nicer to me ergonomically and functionally. These two feel better in my hand, have a nicer, crisper trigger and shoot better for me. The price points between these two are close but the M&P is $200-300 cheaper, so I'm not sure its a fair comparison. The M&P is a nice pistol, accurate, reliable and have served many shooters well but most would admit that the trigger is the first upgrade they would recommend. The biggest difference the HK and the PPQ (M2) is the mag release. HK uses the european paddle/lever near the trigger guard and the PPQ (M2) uses the North American Button release. The PPQ M1 used the european lever style. I've never used the PPX and can't comment on its ergonomics in live fire but it fell comfortable in the hand and the trigger was much nicer than the M&P but not as nice as the PPQ/SFP9. Also the PPX is a hammer-fired vs striker-fired of the three previous pistols, if that matters to you. Given the choice between M&P or PPX, I'd probably buy the PPX in 9mm range kit. At $550 it is a great buy and a good platform to learn with. Out of the four- PPQ M2 would be my personal choice if I had $1000 to spend on a 9mm.

The PPQ trigger is certainly much nicer than that on the M&P, but the ergonomics of the M&P are pretty hard to beat. Not sure the PPQ does it.

The availability of things like magazines and parts (OEM and aftermarket) for the M&P is certainly greater than that for the PPQ.

No experience with the SFP9, but I expect it is broadly similar to the PPQ in a comparison of the three.

I would put SFP9 and PPQ first, PPQ has a slightly better trigger but kicks a bit more. There is also the Sig P320 that could be interesting. Finally the M&P......Ho and in contrary of Rickster66 I do own them all......:p;) One thing that could help you narrow down the choices is which mag release do you prefer/want, paddle lever or push button?
If you are not ready to spend a $1000 for a striker 9mm you might want to take a look a Canik tp9sa for $565.
OK

I agree with the above posters. The HK and the PPQ gives you more than the M&P although the M&P is a good gun. My preference is the SFP9 having shot all 3 of these quite a bit. It suits me better ergonomically and oddly I shoot it better than any other pistol I own or have owned. Planning a video review shortly.

I am a fan of my M&P's. The 22 is a great full-sized trainer. Though I defend my smith, i feel the 3 up for consideration isn't a fair game. The Walther PPQ (the ppx is absolutely fair for comparison) is a bump above the smith for price and arguable quality, while the H&K is even a bump above the Walther.
To fix the trigger that isn't on par with the others, I installed the duty carry apex and ram. On top of that, I upgraded my sights-trigger and sights all in was still the price of a PPQ. With the smith, I have access to more accessories, a 22 trainer that I love and pistols that I am capable with. In the end, it will still come down to trigger time, if you can get it.

Thanks for all the replies. I actually like the paddle release on the HK and Walthers. As was mentioned, no substitute for trigger time. Will have to find someone who has the pistols and will allow me a go with them. Anyone with any of these pistols at and interested in going to or is a member at Lower Trent or Oshawa Skeet please pm me. I'll bring some pistols out for you to try as well.

Thanks.

I own the HK and have shot the PPQ ... the HK is worth the extra money, it is the nicest and most accurate polymer I have, you won't be disappointed.

I have no experience with the M&P.

I have the Walther PPQ M2 40cal. I love it. The slide stop is very close to the gun so it won't snag on leaving a holster if you wear in an area where concealed carry is permitted. It is a bit snappy over a 9mm, but you get used to it, hence the power difference. I posted a thread on a slide bar that you can change out that limits the snappy. There are plenty of videos on testing this firearm. Best handgun I bought yet. Also to note the trigger is an engineering blessing. When you shoot it, you will thank Walther design team.

I can't make my mind up...had a hk45...didn't love it...probably just too big for my hands, scored a usp.40 on ee...and although it's smaller, still not sure it fits me...it's odd, don't have small hands, my cz', 1911's even the hi-cap...and glocks..no problem, I find the Hk grip very un-ergonomic....or maybe it's just me...like handling a 2x4...

Ppx is a great gun. Have one and over 2000 rounds now and runs like a champ with the exception of Wartak ammo.. That stuff sucks... Garbage..
It fits my hand great.. Very easy to get used to... Beautiful trigger... Crisp

Buy extra mags right away.. Range kit is nice as you get three mags, holster and mag holder as well.

Will probably get a ppq next to add to the stable not to replace.

I got some talon grips for mine, to make it even stick more.. Always worried that a sweaty palm it will slip a little, not as accurate ...
Solid now..

I've heard bad things about spares availability for Walthers. Saw a couple threads on it, decision is now made. I'm buying a HK SFP9 to fill the missing niche in my collection.
