For almost 6 months I've been following various threads about member's likes and dislikes of manufacturers and models. Right or wrong I've to come to the conclusion that there does not seem to be one model that stands out above all others :stirthepot2: What I have noticed is that CZ seems to be the least discussed - is this good or bad?

My 1927 Sistema Colt is getting long in the tooth and is in need of some TLC so off to the hospital it goes. I've decided to get a new semi-auto. I would prefer another 45 but would consider .40 or even a 9mm. What's got me stumped is that I'm leaning towards a CZ but the CZ75 does not come in .45. I'm open to all suggestions - also the CZ is a affordable at less then $700.00. thx guys

hey the glock is affordable too.... buy it from frontier taxidermy and it is $599 + shipping and GST (mine came to $650 to my door).

came with a free tactical drop leg holster as well that holds the G17 WITH M3 light atached.

I would buy the glock over the CZ, the glock has 35 parts in it all of which are user replacable and the gun is easy to service with no fitting required.
 
I second the Glock, as long as you don't mind the grip (which does suck for a large number of people, including myself). In terms of reliability and accuracy it's more than acceptable for almost anyone.
 
I know this is superficial, but I've always personally liked the look of a Beretta 92/96, and a Colt 1911.

They just look good, and they are both very reliable from what I've heard.

Yes the CZ comes in a 45cal it's called a CZ97-B its the big Brother of the CZ75-B i have both and love them .It's a double stack 45 so you'll need big hands for it but if you want a 9mm then the CZ75-B is also a great gun
 
A lot of it comes down to personal preference--most "big name" pistols you mention are really good (well, the Norcs are a little hit or miss depending on the model), and the choice comes down to which one you shoot better. I've owned Glocks in the past and really liked them, and with today's prices they're almost to the same level as what I paid for my G17 in 1991.

I shoot a CZ SP01 now as my main 9mm and really like that--I find it more accurate than the Glock at longer ranges and I like the feel of an all-steel pistol. Some people prefer the lighter weight of a polymer-framed pistol like the Glock. If you can, try out some of the ones you're interested in and see what you like best.

Hey, superficial is my middle name! Really, I can't see anyone buying a gun which they think is ugly. Glocks come to mind as do a whole bunch of .22 semi-autos.
 
Well, how good the gun is only half the battle. It's got to feel good in your hand too.

As far as reliability goes, from what I gathered the average goes like this for the main models:

Sig 22* tie CZ 75/SP01
HK USP
Glock
Berreta
Norc

But reliability isn't that much of an issue really. In most cases you'll spend several times the cost of the gun just in ammo before it dies on you.

Then there is grip angle, grip shape, safety (trigger/external)

Have to decide what works for you, not what worked for someone else.

so fellow just placed in an IPSC competition with his Glock, hands it to me, I take upper off so wife can feel weight of frame, she takes it and starts laughing, asked why by Glock owner, "feels like something you would get a the dollar store", and people say I am the tactless one.

That was my point--that these two very different pistols are both good. Some people prefer one, some the other, some like both and some like something else. I agree--you have to try for yourself.
 
Hey Master-G, my comment was a general one, same could be said for Glock/Beretta re. grip angle/shape, safety/decocker, slide/open slide.

I really like the feel and ergonomics of the SP-01 and the smoothness of the Beretta INOX. At some point will likely own a Glock for a bit (saw the 17C on EE), of the three the Beretta I think of as a keeper but am also unlikely to part with the CZ. Own each for different reasons.

Thanks guys I knew I would get some great feedback. I have small hands so my Sistema Colt with it's single stack mag feels comfortable. I also like the all steel finish and feel. For years whatever I fed it - hollow point (remember the flying ash tray) LSWC or hardball - it fed and chambered with no problems. It may a tough act to follow. I still feel that the CZ is my best bet although it will have to be a single stack mag. cheers :dancingbanana:

Just 'cause I'm a dink, the M&P comes in 45, at around $800. It's a double stack but doesn't have the usual issues with grip size. Oh yeah, and the rebate applies to it, so do the 2 free mags.

If you get a chance fondle a 220 in .45acp, the grip is very nice as they are single stack.
 
You know what... I just shot the tightest group I've ever shot in my life with my Ruger KP345: 6 shots - One ragged hole - 10 yards.
I couldn't believe it!

There's a few things I don't like about the gun (the safety is funky), but, it's a great value (cheap!) for what you get.

Note: I was sitting, but, all shots were DAO.
