HK SL8/243/G36 FAQ, Mods, And Info

It’s better to walk away for a breather and try again in a few hours then to throw your lower against the wall and have a hole in your wall.

Get a punch or piece of metal that’s a little bit smaller then the diameter of the pins, use it from one side, and insert the pin from the other side.
Watch the whole video (in post #2) to familiarize yourself with the steps, then watch again while doing, pausing along the way. If your Hera arms BCK came with the instructions, even better. If it didn’t, you need to cut the compression spring for the index plate.
I forgot the spec, so I hope you have the instruction. Good luck!

Lol, ya I dont see any instructions.........And I cant seem to find any on Hera's Website. This is just a drop-in/Bolt on kit though correct? I shouldnt have to remove the barrel to attach the block, correct? I very much appreciate the help.

Correct, everything bolts on. No special tools required. But you do have to cut one spring shorter. I hope someone who has the instructions can post them. Preferably high res photo so I can add it to the main post.

That would be awesome if someone did have them. I am fairly certain the guy I bought it from had previously threw the Hera-2 stock on it but he converted it back for sale.......Something I now wish he didnt do LOL. I am not the most mechanically inclined so its just intimidating me a bit, and I dont feel like screwing up my new rifle.

I am also emailing Hera to see if they can forward me the instructions. If and when they do I can PM them to you.

Not a Problem!! Thank you very much for the help and for making this excellent thread. I may in the future ask for some help from you again.

I picked up an SL8 a while back off the EE and whilst I haven't had as much opportunity to use it as I`d have liked its fast becoming one of my favourites

Once it was sighted in I was picking off clays at 150 yards with ease, I imagine this will only improve once I get around to finding out what load works best - impressive accuracy for a semi auto

One question - does the B&T G36 brass catcher shown on page 1 of this thread definitely work on the SL8? And if so anyone know where to pick one up?

Hera Arms BCK2/ACR Stock-Block conversion with US manfactured G36K Front End. Terrific ergos, thanks to the ACR stock which is far superior to anything produced by HK to date. G36K front end came from HKParts with a $35 import by A z t e c h Armory.

That looks great Bartok!!! I am hoping to build an XM8, but that stock block conversion with HK stock is quite nice. It seems like the XM8 conversion is a bit easier.

I just seen on TommyBuilt's website (he updated it and you can buy from him directly not through HKParts) he is taking pre-orders for his T36 Reciever that is pre molded on the rear and is ready for drop in parts kit. In my opinion this is far easier option then fusing/cutting. He is selling them for $749usd. That is a really interesting option for a conversion.

So who is going to be the guinea pig for buying one and getting an FRT for it?

Would that be considered a new/different firearm? Would it not be Non Restricted if parted together properly? Or can we not even import these?

It will need to go to the lab for an frt for sure. Cant piggy back off the existing frt's as its a new manufacture. I have a feeling they would go "p" because Tom has been assembling them as FA allready.

If the 243 was P, this certainly will be in my opinion, but we won't know for sure until someone takes the gamble.

I spoke with Tommy about importing these.

His receiver has SL8 interals, and won’t fit a G36 bolt carrier, only SL8 carrier, so it’s definetly semi auto only.
The HK243 accepts the G36 bolt carrier all the way to the trunion, you just need to make a small notch to full close the bolt. So apparently they are easy/possible to convert to full auto. (plus get a full auto lower)
There is a chance the T36 could pass as non restricted, but it's slim, especially since we don't know what the RCMP are looking for exactly, and how much machining they are willing to do.

Tommy is not registered to export from the USA.
Without all the details, it would be too expensive to get registered and export a sample to the RCMP.
I will be calling them with pictures and information soon and trying to get some advice from the RCMP lab.

He also has a full auto version, it’s actually a different receiver, with interals that accept the G36 bolt carrier. A complete G36 receiver clone. Believe it or not, that one would have a better chance being classified as non restricted, since our G36s are non restricted/restricted in Canada, but the RCMP have changed how they classify rifles since the G36 was done (clear example is by looking at the HK243). Any modern G36 would be classified as full auto or converted auto probably, might even trigger a reclassification of the G36 platform.
Additionally Tommy can’t export G36 receivers because they are classified as machine guns in the USA. Would need to go through a state department contract.

I became the very happy owner of this NR G36E today. It was quite a wait, but worthwhile in the end. This prIstine, unfired example wiĺl see its first rounds down-range tomorrow! (Note: The Bayonet, Sling and Cleaning Kit were not part of the deal - I already had those)

It came with the HK Rail that has built-in BUIS. The seĺler didn't have the mounting hardware for the rail, so I am waiting for that to arrive. I happened to have this spare low-profile Rail FROM UTG with a proprietary mounting system that is not compatible with the HK Rail. Once I have the HK Rail mounted it will have BUIS.
