According to HK USA the SL8-6 has been cancelled. Not sure what the fate of the Canadian and European SL8-4, 5 and 10 are yet. This may be an US issue only. If I find out more I'll post it.

HK is officially discontinuing the SL8-6 rifle. The SL8 is constructed almost entirely of reinforced carbor-fiber polymer. Based on the combat proven G36 rifle used by the German Army , the SL8 uses a proven short stroke piston -actuated gas operating system. We currently still have the SL8 in stock and they can be ordered thru your local dealer or an HK authorized dealer. A list of HK authorized dealers can be found at http://www.hk-usa.com/locator.asp. MSRP on the SL8 is $2499.00 and it will ship with three 10rd magazines.

Well Im not surprise when hk416 upper are selling so hot. I recalled MR556 will be able to use AR-15 lower and they plan to release a Upper only one.

not really disappointed SL8 is discontinued with the new design like XCR, ACR even SCAR beats their standard in modability.

Does anyone in Canada sell the HK416 yet? I'd really like one, but have no idea on the pricing (at least outside of "expensive").

Isn't a real HK416 worth about $10,000 whereas the MR223 is only $4000 but the MR223 upper wont work with anything but the MR223 lower? I thought I remember reading that somewhere.

Correct on the upper/lower match. The MR223 (and MR308) upper(s) are able to be used on respective lowers only (read: non generic AR15 lowers).

I liked everything back to the pistol grip, but the grip and stock felt terribly to me.

x2 on the thumbhole. You can thank the US BATFA for that sweet little innovation. Great rifle accuracy and operationally speaking, but a donkeys arse to hold... especially with big hands. I had to chop mine off to make a pistol grip and couldn't be happier ever since.

I was about to edit out the last part of my response and keep it to just answering the question, but you responded before I got to it. I don't want a pissing match.

Just :stirthepot2:. But seriously there is way better weapon systems out there for the same amount of money...

This is why I think it may only be the US version. With the MR556 and MR762comming out in the US there probably will not be much need for the SL8 there. The SL8-6 can't compete with sales of the AR. ( No, I am not saying the AR is better.)

Honestly the Price of an SL8 right now is too much. Would I like one? Yes. For about $1600 (Slightly used) I'd buy one. But not for the prices they are now.

Brand new: For $500 more you can get a Tavor. Sell the M21 if it's the quick release and you're at the same price point. for $500 more you can get a Swiss Arms, with the folding stock, and bipod. Once you convert an SL8 you're well over that cost.

I'd like one some day. But it's low on my list. A buddy of mine has one and I do like it. But he got his for a reasonable price. I'm not seeing much of that lately. HK can keep their SL8. The price they're charging should be for a semi auto G36 not the SL8. Just my thoughts on this one.

IMHO the SL8 isn't even a true "black" rifle, it's a de-fanged and neutered version of a true military rifle (G36). I like the clones but wouldn't pay the price to convert one. Each to his own tho. Wonder why HK USA hasn't made a semi-auto G36 for civilian sales, may have something to do with HK policies.

It makes sense that the HK cannot compete in America. Nothing can compete with an American made rifle in America.

American Prices:
Colt 6920: $1249
HK SL8-6: $2035

Canadian Prices:
Colt 6920: $2549
HK SL8-10: $2299

Most AR's in Europe are well over $2000 (Canadian $). A Sabre defense "M4" retails for around 2000 Euros ($2700) and some German built ARs are up there as well. An Aug A2 or a Swiss 550 may also retail for 2600 Euros or more. Even newer g3 (The T41) or L1A1(luxDefTec) clones in Europe retail for 1600+ Euros.

A rifle built (and priced) for the European market simpy has no chance of competing in America.
