Hk SL8

Does anyone know when the last time a shipment of SL8 hit our sponsor stores in Canada? Was it months ago or over a year ago?

The recent X95 shipments to various sponsors came without any type of warning or announcement. Is this normally how it works with H&K as well?

My SL8 has been flawless and super accurate. Wish I used it more. I picked up some magazines from Wolverine years ago and they seem to work ok, not the same quality as an original HK mags though.

Ask North Sylva. They are the official Hk distributor in Canada. Hk is still backlogged from some big european contracts so the shipments will be few and far between at the moment, but odds are they will show up out of the blue.

Thanks. I thought I'd take the time to go through the North Sylva forum and see what I can find.

It appears from a post from 3 years ago, that North Sylva says they don't expect the next rifle shipment of H&K firearms until "end of 2021 and beyond". And that was BEFORE covid hit.

It looks like german and swiss gun shops are pretty low in HK rifle stock, and german gun shop don't even show any HK rifles.

The only place that still wants SL8 is probably Canada. HK243 is what people would buy in Europe, if they are still buying the plastic gun instead of MR223.

i am afraid SL8 had already come to a dead end for the rest of the world, but of course NS can always bring in some if HK has the capacity to entertain the smaller orders. I think this is what NS has been referring to. I won't hold my breath until we see all the European gun shops are fully stocked with MR223 and MR308 before we see the smaller niche orders coming through.

On the other hand, HK pistols are plentiful in the european gun shops it seem.

I appreciate the objective look at the situation - when the German stores don't carry H&K rifles, it is going to be hard to hold out hope for any here. I wonder how much of this is also Germany looking at Canada's political climate and performing a risk/reward calculation whether it is prudent from a business perspective to manufacture arms for what may be an increasingly controlled and oppressive market when it comes to black rifles.

That is more the risk on NS side, not on HK.

I did a search and see that some Germany gun shops are still listing SL-8, so I guess there are european markets who still want the heavy barrel "target shooting " setup. One gun shop listed a 12-18 month lead time.

And let's put it this way, SL8 is 1600 euro firearm, MR223 is like 2300 to 2500 Euro. Looking it this way, SL8 does have a niche even in Europe.

So I guess at one point HK will make a batch. Modern factories are pretty flexible and nimble, but even JIT guys like auto manufacturers have "part bins". As long as HK still have part bins for SL8 and there aren't any missing parts that a big set up or major purchase from contractors required, it is just a matter of time to find a time spot to run it.

I did check with North Sylva today and they re-iterated the H&K ETA shipment date is end of 2021, possibly longer.

Safe assumption is 2022 then. I advise patience and watch the EE like a hawk, the pricing ebbs and flows, even at inflated prices i saw SL8s around 2k which wasn't far off a reasonable price for them at all. If you can nab a used one with a few rounds at sub $2k you should unless you're picky about having the cleanest rifle around.
Hk CHF barrels last an absurd amount of time as do their components so don't be discouraged if you see for sale with a few hundreds or a thousand+ rounds.

i agree. life is short; why wait to shoot? also, decide what mods you want to do to the gun. magwell for ar mags? pistol grip? you can get them with this work already done on EE or #######. and while they will often be $3k+, realize that's a $2k gun with a $500 magwell and a $500 pistol grip. a hotrodded sl8 is easily an over $3k gun. and the new ones, if they do ever get here, will for sure be $3k or more base cost.

once you get your head around the fact that it is actually a $3k+ gun once it is worked on to an appropriate level, realize that a lot of other options are out there in that price range. i mean, you buy an acr and you're a hero; you buy an sl8 and your just that guy who couldn't afford a g36 (as per most hk snobs; the upside being that most sl8's are safe queens as a result so buying used isn't really a concern).

Thanks for the info. I am not much of an accessories and modifications guy, but I will get that magwell since I heard the H&K mags are an exorbitant price.

But you are right, once an upgrade is done - ie. an optic, the actual cost of ownership will start to rise, if not skyrocket.

**EDIT - Yikes! I just checked the prices of that magwell adapter and it is in excess of $400 plus tax! I thought it would be like an Opsol adapter, $25. Guess I have much to learn...***

If its a part for an H&K you can take your pre conceived notion of what something should cost and multiply by 5

What stops this one from going on the list?

Probably nothing, but I have decided I don't want to live in fear or hesitate on anything; otherwise, the government has the control over our decisions which is what they want. I thought the same thing before I picked up my X95 and I am so glad I did - it's fun to shoot. I am not going to let the government dictate what I can and cannot buy. If it was up to the gun control folks, everything would be on the ban list. I'd rather have something that I can enjoy for a short time, and then legally shelve it and wait and vote until CPC gets into power and hopefully reverses all this. I think if I had a restricted, I may think twice about buying a restricted gun; same consideration if we still had a long gun registry where any purchase would be on record with the government.

I will cross the bridge of something that I have getting banned, when I get to it. It also may not happen.

Exactly. People need to realize that if the gun-grabbers get their way, literally EVERYTHING will eventually be banned. There are no secret but legal firearms that are somehow flying under the radar. Buy what you want, enjoy it and vote in accordance with that.

When they are done that they will want to ban fuel burning cars... and pick up sales to people with no commercial use for it.

Sorry for the thread derail but I'm not sure where to ask a dumb question so I'll try here.

I've been sitting on an SL-8-4 for about 5 years and have only shot it a couple times. I liked the idea of an accurate NR semi but it isn't really practical for hunting and it just sits in the safe. I'd like to sell it but have no idea what to ask. I have no recollection of what I paid for it and the only one for sale in EE is an SL-8-6 and they want $3500.

I have the long upper rail and the short upper rail, the original (pinned) magazine and 5 of the 10 round pistol mags. Vortex StrikeEagle 1-6x24 optic.

Again, sorry for the derail. Any insights appreciated.

Well, just like eBay, just because someone is asking a certain amount doesn't mean that that is its actual value. Also, for harder to find / uncommon guns some sellers may believe a higher price may be justified.

For instance, for a long while, X95s were out of stock everywhere (pretty much still are though apparently it is improving). Some on the EE for a stock X95 were asking up to $3800 for a stock configuration of 5.56/.223. Most stores that had it listed, listed it between $2600 - $2900 brand new for the 5.56/.223 version but they were out of stock. I finally got mine for $2699 + tax. Ultimately pricing falls on a supply/demand basis, but as with everywhere else like selling cars, etc., you will see an average price plus some outliers. If supply is limited, sellers can try their hand at listing at higher prices.

In your case, for reference - here are at least two sponsors here which happen to be two LGS, that I have seen that have these listed in their retail catalog (one was an SL8-4, the other an SL8-5), and their prices were around $1999 - $2299 for stock configuration, brand new. You can check our various sponsors websites to see if they carry SL8s and if so, see for yourself what kind of prices they are asking. But North Sylva indicates that they don't expect HK shipments until end of this year at least.

Makes sense. Thanks for the logical explanation.
