HK UMP SF 9mm - The Real Deal

G
Yes, by at least $5K too high. There is another for sale at Tier 1 Armoury in Edmonton for $9K. It has been sitting for months. IMO those prices sre insane for a largely polymer firearm, rarity taken into account. Even 5K would be stretch for me. Given the choice I'd much rather have an MP5 or SIG MPX. In reality, kit is the rarity thst makrpes the UMP series desirable in Canada. Aside from that, they are an OK blow-back plastic subgun firing from a closed bolt a-la the Scorpion EVO.

Not trying to be a downer. The Op scored a nice, ultra-rare subgun. But let's keep things in perspective...

Bartok, I share your view on value-for-money on a polymer sub-gun. These sell for about $1700 USD to LE departments south of the 49th. Although, there are no civilian sales in the US either. I would acquire an MP5K over a UMP in a nanosecond if I could and regret like hell ever selling my SP89 in 1995 as the C68 debacle took hold. The roller-delayed blowback actions are an engineering marvel.

In reality, rarity is THE driving factor on price here in Canada. If you want one as part of your arsenal, there are very few to go around.

I still remember when Elwood Epps had a legit UMP 45 that came into their inventory that sold for south of $2K about 10 years ago (if I'm not mistaken). I recall hesitating for some reason and lost out. :(

I paid 5500 new forcme ans 6000 for my g36

Still high, but much more in line with reasonable for what you get in terms of performance (with 5 shots) and rarity. $6K for a G36 is still steep, but I'd probably bite. The UMP not so much, when I strongly consider the MPX to be far superior. I place the HK product on par with the CZ EVO Scorpion in terms of design, construction and performance. Rarity included, I wouldn't pay more than $2.5K for one.

Too bad it can’t be non restricted with a fake can on it. Looks amazing

Yeah I don't know, the thing is kind of a unicorn and the whole point of paying the premium for something like this is to have it as close to its intended configuration as possible. With an extra ~10" of barrel on it would look ridiculous and it wouldn't be worth it, why at that point wouldn't you just get a NR USC, MPX, skorpion evo or even a JR Carbine?

Its rarity is what brings it's values up. Don't check out older 911 prices and compare them with the 911 you can get today, cheaper.....

Value isn't just materials and a name. Comparisons are completely moot for this kind of procurement.

I had the opportunity to buy one for $2200 and passed on it. It only came with 4 mags and I wanted more, but was told it was impossible to get any more. The other thing that turn me off is they is no spare parts for it. So cross your fingers nothing breaks on it or you don't lose any parts. HK was pretty pissed that these hit the civie market and will offer zero support if something goes wrong. They will only support Mil/LE customers. When I buy any firearm I always consider spare parts availability and extra accessories like mags. Even look at the 9mm Famaes. Guns and mags are breaking and no spare parts.

I agree, mags and parts are a problem if you try and source them in Canada, IRUNGUNS can get pinned mags and I was able to source spare internals (springs, extractor, main recoil spring, firing pin assembly, buffers) from Brownells, which I did. Barrels and lowers are a different story but I don't anticipate any issues there.

$2200 for a UMP is essentially free, you should have bought it.
