What's it cost to cut down a barrel to 8" or so at a gunsmith?

Is there anyone in Ontario that will do this mod cleanly, and attach an UMP styled flash suppressor to it?

Thinking about an HK USC 45 with a cut barrel for the stub-nose look of it's UMP counterpart. Would love the folding stock as well, but since the receiver isn't built to hold the folding stock I wouldn't bother spending the money for it.

If there are any dealers in the area who have a USC in stock LMK here, or via PM.

Thx

Buddy you can't or have a gunsmith cut the barrel below 18"5;
Try to source an after market or OEM barrel from Wolverine or R Nicholls.

I can't quote the "regs" chapter and verse here but for a firearm of that type the barrel length is 18.5". If it comes with a 16" barrel thats fine, however you can't cut the 18.5" to 16" or cut the 16" to 8". I'm sure a couple of "SME's" will chime in soon.

...you personally can't or a gunsmith can't?

I'm pretty sure the people who posted a gunsmith can do it had their USC cut down as well, but I've searched so many topics I can't find what I found earlier about the subject.

I've also been told they they are not importing to Canada from the USA now

Neither can.The barrel has a minimum length of 18.5', so you can cut a 26" barrel to 18.5"
However for that firearm you wold have to get a "manufactured" barrel at the length you are looking for. A gunsmith could manufacture an 8" barrel for ya.

Good enuff, as long as I can get the barrel length I want - anyone know of a local guy who does this stuff and keeps it legal during the process?

Bits of Pieces in Delta, B.C. does the barrel conversions. I was quoted $460ish for a USC non-restricted barrel conversion, 18.6". I'm sure they can sorce an 8". My friends 9mm storm was upgraded to non-restricted by them and the things a lazer now.

Ok so a dealer is saying they are non-restricted firearms, is this true? I was under the impression they are restricted and would have to have a secondary barrel made to become non-restricted

Edit: called Ellwood Epps about it and they have some in stock, they are listed as restricted firearms in stock configuration but they often rebarrel them to make it non-restricted.

PS if anyone has one of these rifles can you chime in on reliability, shootability, and overall fun factor?

Pics are always welcome with a little write up to help me make my final decision

Never bothered me actually, if anything it will help me when I buy a .45 P220R so I can stock less ammo.

I've wanted one of these guns as far back as I remember, although I never knew the specifics of the gun at the time I always had a soft spot for it.

I really like my USC/UMP, great gun and lots of fun.

I ended up getting a barrel blank made into a 8" barrel, rather than the 18.6 though. For how long I've had all my guns, I've never taken them anywhere BUT a shooting range (including 2 non restricted) so having the short 8"er is much nice :D

They are VERY expensive to make and finish, but the AWESOME factor is so damn high once its done, that its worth it :D

I was under the impression that any restricted class barrel may be shortened by anyone since it doesn't change it's classification...I may be wrong...

I also know that any non-restricted, on a semi-automatic action, may be cut down to only 18.5".
