HK USC to UMP conversion

took the UMP/USC out to the range today. This thing is incredible. Ran 150 rounds through it flawlessly. A very accurate weapon for such a short barrel. I spent more time talking to guys about the HK than shooting it though...lol as it did attract alot of attention. I had a MR223 and a 14" Benelli M4 shotgun with me as well but the HK UMP was the real crowd pleaser.

Such a nice gun to shoot. Very light and easy to shoulder, very light recoil and the accuracy....even I could not believe it at first. Out to 100 yards there were no issues at all. I came very close to the steel plates out past 200 yards with a bit of elevation compenstaion for drop. Ran some Blazer Brass, American Eagle and Fiocchi....ate all....with no issues. Accuray was about the same with all as well.

Very happy with this weapon!

Hey guys,

Some seriously nice builds going on here... it has seriously given me the bug!

Some questions I have though are:

1) What is the approximate cost of a conversion?

2) Do you have to order a new barrel and lower or can you cut the barrel and file the mag well?

3) How hard are mags to come by and at what price are you looking at?

Thanks a lot guys any help would seriously be appreciated.

1: Cost depends on what you go with. With a USC costing say, 2000 dollars (may be able to get it for more or less) for the lower, stock block and folding stock it would come out to about 4000 dollars, give or take depending on if you can get used parts. (thats not counting mags)

2: Barrel cant be cut. I have seen some Top Notch UMP barrels go for around 500 bucks, but they are rare. There are a couple companies here that make .45ACP barrel blanks that you can use. Bits of Pieces I think has them for 220-ish for a .45 barrel blank, then you count in machining time and the tooling to get it done.

3: Mags are pretty rare but do come up from time to time. This is the step I am on right now, I have SEEN them advertised in the EE for 140 bucks per mag, although they are 65-US in the USA, so if you got say, 10 mags, plus import costs/tax/shipping, it could be just over 1000 bucks (100 per mag) if you are lucky.

You pay a lot of extra for getting the parts into Canada. The stock block + stock + UMP lower can be had for less than 1000 bucks in the USA.

There is some simple filing/cutting work to be done, in order to get the UMP vents and open up the receiver for the UMP mags to fit also. And you have to swap the USC trigger guts into the UMP lower too, which isn't too hard.

You get your rail figured out yet on your Tavor? I am off this weekend if you need a hand or need my barrel wrench.

I got a barrel wrench from Armedsask, I just haven't had time, work has taken me all over Canada in the last month, and I had to remodel the bathroom this weekend. I'll pop you a PM soon.

What measures have you lads been taking to limit the mags and where? Rivets, screws, blocks? On the spine or sides? Interior blocks like the 5/10 rders?

I have tons of optics to choose from. I am inclined to go Aimpoint Micro T1 or M2 Comp though. Eotech 553 or 552 look a bit clumsy. Kinda regretting the sale of the 511.a65 now.....lol.

The Trijicon Reflex RX01 looks good on this weapon ......decisions...decisions?

I was just about to pic up a Burris Fastfire II but think I'm going to hold on and wait for the Leupold DeltaPoint MRDS to come out this summer. I think I prefer the 'low and light' aspects. Less to get snagged on and certainly good enough out to 50m which is all I care about. Both are waterproof but the Leupold has the advantage of a larger sight picture and some nifty accelerometer actuated features.

Tough to find a mount to co-witness either though, especially with a QD mount which I always gravitate toward.

My USC (single stack) mags are riveted at 3.069 inches or 77.94mm, but its pretty much impossible to insert them on a closed magazine.

You could easily lower the river 2mm and have no problems with (AKA impossible to have) another round being sqeezed in, and it SHOULD be enough for the loaded mag to be inserted with the bolt closed.

Unfortunately still no UMP mags but hopefully that will change soon :D

Many people DO take the Navy lowers and put the USC parts into it, so it can have the look of an auto gun, but will only shoot semi-auto. You can take out a part that lets all the positions (besides "SAFE") shoot on semi-auto. So you have a "Safe-Semi-Semi-Semi" lower :p

Thats one of the reasons many people put the epoxy into the Sear area on the lower, so it physically cant accept the sear. I did this on my FBI (semi-only) lower, but it wasn't a requirement.

Some people have way too much time on their hands is all I can say!!!

Let me go and get a tupperware box, put a big chunk of metal in it and shake it back and forth five times, ahhhh all the effect for a fraction of the cost...

You'll just hate this one then:D... just finished it up this afternoon after about a year waiting for the damn rifle and about as much time on the parts.

...and way more fun than tupperware.

As close to an MP5 as I'll ever get... in Canada anywayd:h:

USC from Wolverine... gracias
Rails from Dlask
2rd Burst Lower (Safe-Semi-Semi-Semi)
Magpul Rail Ladders
Night Sights
Tango Down QD Stubby VG
The slots were done by the smith at Lock n' Load in Edmonton in the correct 6mm. It took a while as he is always busy but the end product was flawless. I have no problem recommending him for this type of work.
For optics I think I'll wait and grab one of those Leupold DeltaPoints when they come in this summer.
I'm still deciding on a QD light setup but am leaning heavily on a HID ballast setup if I can find one that strobes. Hard to find one small enough though. Might have to go with an Insight M6x and tough it out (lol) patience... patience...

The barrel shroud is just for giggles... feeding the mall ninja deep inside;)

what mount are you running under the DOC optic? Your UMP looks great too!

Just the one that came with (and fyi its a clone for now until the Leupold DeltaPoint comes out)... and thanks. It's been a long time coming but I'm sure I'm preaching to the converted. I'm still a bit taken back on how large it feels when shouldered; maybe I'm just used to the TP9? When I started I was definately thinking it'd be about 2/3 the size. To many late nights kicking down the doors in video games I guess:D.

It's almost the same size as a full SBR rifle. I was struggling with how to limit the mags. Usually any method is hidden within the magwell but with the UMP mags at 5 rounds it required a change that wouldn't be visible from the outside. I considered using a set screw on the spine between the follower guide rails like on the SL8/G36K or rivets like on an AR but at the point required to restrict movement of the follower to 5 rds it would have shown up outside of the magwell. To me esthetically this wasn't the best option. So what I ended up going with was using an plastic epoxy to weld a strip of aluminum between the guide rails from the inside. This restricted movement but did not effect the esthetics of the mag from the exterior. The downside is that the follower can not be removed for cleaning but it wouldn't be different for any other procedure.

Dammit, I was one of the first to start my conversion in the latest batch and mine is still not done :(

Some delays at the machinist for the stock block, then all I need are mags... It looks awesome right now just sitting together.

Looks great Kuya

Due to the size and shape I found it a challenge to find a decent case. After months of searching I settled on this one by Elite Survival Systems. About 75 + shipping Cdn to the door and holds 5 mags.

EDIT: I had an few enquiries as to where I bought the case. I found mine at http://www.elitesurvival.com/index.php?p=product&id=80&parent=10 But you have to scroll down to the bottom of the page and get Size 5. That should help.

Can anyone shed any light on the options of importing? I've contacted HDPS and HKParts in the US but haven't heard back. Is there a 3rd party import company you recommend (PMing me is fine)?
