I am looking into getting a USP 9mm. I was wondering what the difference is between the USP 9mm and USP Tactical?

Is it just the threaded barrel and sights? I feel a $425 price bump is not worth it for a thread on the barrel and upgraded sights.

The USP Tactical also has a match trigger that is a hell of a lot smoother than a standard USP trigger. A USP Custom Sport is pretty much equivallent to a USP Tactical and also costs more. In my opinion it is worth the extra cost. It may not if all you want it for is an occasional range plinker.

why the USP series and not the latest and totally ambi, amazing, best handgun of the last 20 years the HK P30l? Is it due to the paddle mag release that you chose USP vs P series?

Well I don't know first hand because I don't own a 9mm Tactical, but like I said the HK product literature that I've seen for 9mm is no different than for .45. I my opinion if you're paying that much more for a Tactical it should come with the match trigger, otherwise it is really not worth it. A Custom Sport (which I own) is usually the same price as a Tactical and does come with a match trigger. The easiest way to tell is the hammer will have an "S" marking on it.

The usp tactical was built for suppressed use. Seeing that suppressors are illegal in canada, unless you were planning on being sneaky and running a can up front I recommend the standard usp, the tactical is not worth the extra cost for running without a can. As for the trigger you can switch up triggers on usp without voiding the warranty, unless I am much mistaken so you can swap in a match trigger if you wanted to into the standard usp for less than what it would cost to buy the tactical.

USP .45 is the boss but the 9mm version was a bit of a let down however H&K redeem themselves in the 9mm family line with their P30L, I just got mine and I'm loving it can't wait for my H&K45.

Totally disagree. I owned a USP 45 and a 45 Tactical, the tactical was worth it. Not sure whats up with the 9mm versions, but I regret letting my .45 Tactical go.
Can you explain why? What feature of the tactical addition made it worth it?

Can you elaborate why it was a let down since I am contemplating purchasing one.

I have owned and still own a number of H&K's; USP .45, HK45, Mark 23, P7M8 and a .9mm USP Custom Sport.

When I was looking for a 9mm USP, I was really close to buying a USP Tactical, mainly due to the fact I prefer shooting 9mm for practice. However, I was considering the USP Tactical due to the adjustable sights and trigger, which I feel are an asset when shooting different loads, at different distances, plus I really like a nice crisp, clean trigger.

I was having difficulties justifying the added cost, which is considerable when comparing a standard, fixed sight, factory trigger USP 9mm vs a USP Tactical 9mm. Then I managed to come across a new USP Custom Sport 9mm, which includes the adjustable sights and trigger, but with an end of slide barrel, instead of a threaded barrel.

As mentioned above, although the threaded barrel looks cool and offers a slightly longer overall barrel length, it offers nothing else to us Canucks.

When I go to the range, I am 'torn' between taking my German Sig 226, G17 with Vanek trigger, or my H&K USP Target Sport to work with. The USP Custom Sport offers more personal 'tuning' when compared to the others.

My 2 cents, if you want a 9mm H&K with some nice features, and are not looking for a "tacticool" looking piece, go with the USP Custom Sport and save yourself some bucks for ammo!
The H&K recoil system makes it feel like you are shooting 'low recoil' 9mm rounds. A great soft shooting 9 to practice with and shoot.

To the OP, if your hands are small, you will like the USP but i found it too small for my meat hooks. The USP 45 was a much better fit.

Where did you find your custom sport? I can't find one anywhere.

Hi GundamZero,

Actually, I picked up the USP Custom Sport BNIB on the EE here.

I see you are in TO, so we are not too far apart.

I shoot at Silverdale, if you want to try shooting the H&K USP Custom Sport and compare it to others, if you are interested shoot me a pm and perhaps we can meet at SD so you can try the 9's I listed above out! Perhaps then you'll have a better idea of what you prefer.

If the weather is OK this Friday, I'll be at SD in the afternoon.

Not sure if anyone has them. You could buy a standard usp and change to a match trigger. The usp triggers are modular and as long as you are using unmodified factory hk parts the warranty won't be void, so you can fit in the match trigger just fine, you can either order from a local retailer or you can order the kit from the states. The adjustable sights, up to you, All my pistols will either get the xs big dot or the trijicon hds, so I am not overly sold on adjustable sights myself. And unlike blackacres I don't play with reloads I just run factory ammo, mostly bdx 124 grain. So maybe the reloads have something to do with it, but handguns already have a short range so I am really not sold on adjustable sights.
