i just got myself a brand spankin new hk usp 9mm and i'm surprised at how little discussion there is on this pistol on cgn. well, either that, or the search function blows. anyway, i walked into the gunshop, informed the clerk that i want to purchase a pistol, and got a few of them out for viewing and fondling. i considered the sig, sw mp, cz sp01 and the usp. after playing with them, i just couldn't resist the usp. it was pricier than the cz and the mp (by about $300) and it's da trigger pull was heavier than the sig's. but i loved how it fit in my hand, and i've always wanted something with "hK" on it. those golden letters and the white s and red f on the control lever got me. can anyone who owns a usp 9 tell me if there is anything i need to know about it? what can i expect accuracy and recoil wise? will the trigger improve? i'm a lefty so i love the ambi mag release. too bad they only had variant 1, i would've liked that lever on right side of the frame but ah well...i'm used to left side levers. thanks for any input, i cant wait for that damn att!!
p.s.
i love this forum. i spend too much time here, lurking and skulking around.

oh yeah, i almost forgot, can someone please fill me in on the whole polygonal rifling spiel, i know what it is and what it looks like, but does it make any real difference? my understanding that it supposedly prolongs barrel life, and is rather expensive to manufacture. is that about it, or is there more to is? does it affect accuracy in any way?

The HK USP is a pretty nice weapon fired it at the range a couple of times, but I cant stand the mag release not that responsive but im used to push buttons.

As for accuracy the HK USP was built as a military service pistol and its main function is to continue firing no matter what, not in the accuracy department just like all other service pistols. While match guns are meant for accuracy and tiny groups but need to be treated like children. Just have to learn to use it, keep it clean and it will do just fine though. Recoil wise its not to bad USP handles really well.

Congrats on your purchase.

The trigger will smooth out a bit with shooting. The recoil is pretty mild and accuracy is very good, particularly for a polymer "service" pistol. The hammer forged polygonal barrel will last longer than its conventional counterparts and is easier to clean. It also provides better gas seal, which in theory increases the bullet speed (although in real life, the difference is pretty negligible).

USP is a very nice pistol; you won't be disappointed. And you can easily convert your gun to Variant 2 (right side safety) or alternatively buy an ambi-safety kit.

really? great news! how would i go about converting it to variant 2? i noticed that the frame has the white notch on both sides where the safety/decock lever is. can i just switch the lever from the left side to the right? or do i need a different lever? what do u suggest?

You need to buy a V2 control lever. Call Wolverine Supplies or any other dealer that stocks HK parts. I don't think it's very difficult to do the conversion, but if you're not mechanically inclined you could always have a gunsmith do it for you.

You need one left hand lever for all left hand variants, as well as for the right hand variants. ( the only part that changes is a selector or variant plate) I learned this the hard way. I have some spare parts in my HK bag. I have the plate to change it to variant 9, for no decocker, safety up only (like a 1911)= cocked and locked. It does not have paint on it. I also have a spare firing pin and spring and extractor. Right now, my USP is set up as a variant # 4, decocker on the right hand side, decock only.

I would also highly recommend getting a match trigger installed. It makes a HUGE difference. Should only run you about $100 plus installation.
