I see that Collector's Firearms in Houston (Texas) has a couple of them up on their site right now, as they usually do. One is $750, the other is $695. They also have a mag for sale for $100 by itself.
While U.S. prices are not always a good indicator of Canadian prices, in this particular case I think they are about right.
Once in a blue moon you would see a VP70Z come up for sale on the EE here on CGN. I am pretty sure I can remember seeing one go up on the board in the $700-800 range, and the guy had to BTT it several times and drop it to the $500-600 range to sell it.
I can also remember one of the (former) site sponsor's (o.k., it was Armco) list one as a kind of collector's item at around $1,500, and I think they may have found a buyer for it at that price - as it was off their site after a few weeks. That one may have had the box and some other collector paraphernalia with it though.
Generally, it is HK collectors that pick them up to round out their HK pistol collection. I have never tried on, but by all accounts they are not the sweet shooters that the P7's and the P9's are. They seem to be designed around the 3 round burst concept, and the semi-auto only ones (which is, of course, all we can get) never really caught on... to say the least.
Realistically, you aren't going to see many of these around anymore, so the value will be determined by that to some extent. Having said all that, I personally would be a buyer in the $500-750 range (as I am an HK pistol collector nerd myself). Beyond that, it is just too much to pay for a gun you aren't really going to shoot very much anyway.
They do have a cool look and a cool history though. I certainly wouldn't want to see anyone trying to learn to shoot pistol on this gun, or have it as their one and only range-toy. Lt. Gorman had one... and look what happened to him!
