HK VP9: Bad News and Good News

dude, chill, you are overthinking it :).

What you possibly do not know is that HK USA is a subsidiary and by contract they cannot export any HK products, therefore, they can create their own branded HK products to sell and compete with other platforms only/whitin the US. So not only you will never see a VP9 because is prohibited but also because it was not meant to leave USA, they cannot ship /export to here, only HK Germany can.

When HK Germany makes a SPF9, it will be most likely different than the one you know as VP9 and it will be considered a restricted in Canada.
Most likely, Hk will create a long[er] version, as they did with the P30 (P30L).

Cheers.

The new HK looks like a winner. The mag ejection paddles look like they will work for people used to using their thumb.

sorry Mr. English teacher but seeing as how my house just got broken into and I am currently down a laptop I guess my crappy cell phone posting will have to do.

I don't get the attraction to the VP9.

Besides HK reliability and durability, which realistically remains to be seen with the VP9 (I'm looking at you Gen 4 Glock), what does it have to offer vs other Striker fired offerings from major manufacturers?

Better trigger? Well okay, but if I buy one and the trigger isn't safer to operate and doesn't make me shoot 3 inch groups at 25 yards (which I can't do now), what's the point?

Better ergos? Again, okay, but after you put a couple thousand rounds through any gun, ergo's become less and less important than one would think.

I see hard to find parts, holsters and expensive mags.

Then don't get one. Pretty simple no?

Ideas are welcome, you suggested good trigger and good erganomics and expensive mags and difficult to find parts.

The only issue I see in your list is the parts supply. Probably won't be needed for a while but hopefully an HK fan can comment on parts availability in Canada for current models?

I agree that given time a person can get used to shooting less then ergonomic pistols with mediocre triggers.... but I don't have an issue with good erganomics and sweet triggers out of the box.

Oh I won't be.

Simple?

Yes.

HK threads are like religious threads. Your ideas aren't welcome if you aren't part of the regular congregation.

Nothing religous about it, you don't see the appeal, then don't get one. For me the biggest thing is the mag release, it's the one that feels most natural to me.

I will give Hk the benefit of the doubt, and be an early adopter(rare thing for me to do) provided I like the trigger, if it is anything like a lem trigger with a shorter reset I am sold. It's basically what I wish my P30L LEM was. shorter reset, and my fav mag release.

The ergos for any pistol to me is a bonus, but while we are at it, as far as I am concerned the p30l has the best ergos of anything I have held, if this is like it, which from what I hear it is, voila, I found the pistol for me.

So long as the canadian retailers don't gouge the #### out of us we should be fine.

Clobb, parts are not an issue. I can order from Wolverine and they will come. It takes time but then you truly don't need a lot of parts for maintenance. I have recently passed 25,000 rounds on my P30L, the factory recommendation at this interval is to replace ONE part - the recoil spring. I bought a spare just in case I make it to 50k without getting totally bored with its accuracy & reliability. I expect the service intervals on the VP9/SFP to be similar

HK's are NOT for tinkerers or customizers. If you want a pistol to tune & customize etc then by all means get a Glock/1911/etc... If you want a pistol to shoot and shoot and shoot well an HK is a pretty good choice.

Every new pistol takes time for holsters to come around so that's moot. Unless you're looking for a race ready IPSC rig there are lots of choices for the P30 series now and the big guys (Blade Tech, Comp Tac etc) will have VP9/SFP holsters soon no doubt.

Not sure what else to say, I am interested in seeing what the SFP finally looks like and I will probably pick one up to run hard for a while.
