My Mr308 seems fine to me for running around with it, its is a battle rifle setup, no different than carrying any other 308 rifle like a G3 or FN. Depends how you set it up. Now with 13 barrels coming there is a good place to start and the standard 16 is fine.

Here is the reason the HK feels bigger - HK mag is wider and longer so the receivers have to be bigger. HK also uses a massive barrel nut and lower receiver extension nut.

Pay attention to the geometry of the mags and the feed lips. The HK mag feed lips are supported.

Biggest reasons 762 P Mags are failing in the SR 25 magazine rifles and no I am not talking about our sporting rifles is that the feed lips are not well supported as the HK mags . I know of one PD that is using Colt 308 carbines and is actively searching for a better magazine than Pmag due to the failure rates of feeding issues simply put the 762 mags are not holding up as long as the 556 models.

While we are talking HK.....initial G36 at the Yuma proving ground....24000 rounds fired, no lubing and no cleaning. No other platform in the world can perform like that.

Then the anti HK German Defense minister starts a political agenda to stop Germany from selling weapons of war to the world and poof you have the G36 controversy,
which was very easy for the anti HK / Colt DI loving American gun public to perpetuate....when almost none of them had any experience with the G36 system.

PS: you are right, HK 416 / 417 / G36 have very, very little fouling compared to almost any other platform !
