That's great news, now I guess its a race for the Canadian distributors to see who gets my money first!
:D

The HK G36 has an FRT# and is restricted or non-restricted based on barrel length. The very few true G36 units in Canada carry a significant price due to lack of supply.

"The HK243 is a newly manufactured, purpose built, semi-automatic, civilian version of the G36 that cannot be converted to full auto without significant damage to the firearm." - HK

The HK243 does not have an FRT# so it needs classification. However, the initial offering has only one barrel length: 16.5 inches, so our importers would be well advised to wait until 18.5 barrels are available in order to submit for classification.

No need to wait, if its restricted based on barrel length then once the longer barrel are available we are gtg. Either NR or R, am in!

Lol you guys are funny.

It's gonna be 2+ years before HK gets the production line up and running; R Nicholls places its order with HK and then gets a sample submitted to the RCMP for determination. HK USA probably doesn't even have the injection molds for their US versions yet.

The fact that it's listed on their website means the German Government approved it for civilian sales, and it's now legal to sell to civilians, not that it's "waiting to be shipped to a store near you!".

I will assuredly add one of these to my collection, BUT we'll be lucky to see it by this time 2016.

I would be in for one 100%. If it takes a long time to finally get here thats fine, more time to save!!! Always loved the G36 and my Ruger 10/22 have the Archangle kit on it.

Will longer barrels be available for this rifle? Or are we stuck with the 16.5" length?

I remember the original list of rifles, the American version came with the 16.5" barrel, and then the European models were going to have a 14.5 or 16" version and then an 18.5" version was planned as well, so assuming all goes well there SHOULD be an 18.5" non-restricted model. Assuming again that by the time they get here black rifles will still be legal to own!

that's a damn cool looking rifle. if it can be non-restricted that would be the buying point for me. already owning 2 ARs i can't see myself dropping the $4000~ this will cost probably.

HK293L:

Barrel length: 480mm (18.8")
Already has a STANAG magwell.

They are overrated, I have an sl8 converted to a g36 clone. It's really big and heavy and I'm not overly impressed with it. And it did cost a fortune too. Most likely no different than this new one coming out

I have an SL8 as well, without the conversion. Its big and heavy and does exactly what it was intended to do, this one however looks like it has a thinner barrel, which would make sense and likely make it much lighter.

Uh. No it isn't here. This reminds me of the post saying that "SKS's are next on the prohibition line". We should start a list of "misleading post titles"
The G36 is not here and it will be a long time before it is, unfortunately..
Uh the G36 has been in canada in civilian hands for years in limited quantities so that post is even more misleading
