HK416/MR223 Info Thread

I asked this before and been told that it might change the dynamite to the barrel. I get its not worth $400 cdn for a warcomp; but because of the barrel threading is the soley reason for the price up and AZ making mula.

B&T i looking into it too but it’s a brake and doesnt have adoptor collar for warden or trainer from surefire. AZ does have Dead Air Key Mount flashhider in M15x1 if anyone interested; a lot cheaper than surefire.

Why not re-threading the barrel?

I had the original MR223 in 2007. At that time standard AR mags didn’t generally fit. I used Magpul EMags. Is that still the case with the A3? Is it limited to factory HK mags and Magpul EMags?

The A3 and it's predecessor removed the incompatibility with standard AR mags and also relocated the push pins back to be compatible with a standard AR upper.

Wrong - the B+T Brake and Flash-hider both accept ﹰSurefire Wardens and Training Silencers. Ask me how I know....

I did hear the surefire socom mounting is heavily influenced(copied from) by the b&t rotex. Is there a b&t rival to the warcomp that does a bit of both flash suppression and mitigation of muzzle rize?

Nope - the Brake is straight recoil and the "Stretched" Birdcage Flash-Hider is strictly flash reduction. Sadly, there is no hybrid combining functions at this time. I found the B+T 2-Chamber Brake to be particularly obnoxious and worthy of the Blast Warden!

Yours is a 11 inch correct? How flashy is it with the brake?

I had the Brake on my 10.4" APC223, which came that way in factory configuration. Yikes! That Barrel/Brake combination was seriously nasty to the point that it even annoyed me as the firer. The Brake was very flashy on top of sounding and feeling like a distraction device when fired. I wouldn't personally use that Brake without a Warden.

The original MR223 or HK416 magazine well was designed for a tight fit on stanag magazines that are nato compliant. Magpul s original pmag was never nato compliant according to the demensions. It wasn’t really in spec till Gen3 and some Gen 2 twighlight variants. The E Mag was designed for guns like that and others. At the time of the HK416 development Magpul was a tiny buisness.

Gen 3 magazine fits in all HK416 or MR223 variants.
On a side note it’s like a “golden age” of firearms for civies in Canada. All these new owners have no idea how it was back in the early 2000’s

Yes, definitely seems that things are less finicky than they used to be. I remember using a dremel to shave down the original PMags so they would fit the mag well of my first gen MR223. The results weren’t pretty, but it worked!

I think I bought the very first MR223 that was imported, early in 2009. I found this old thread which I enthusiastically posted after buying the gun from CRAFM for big dollars. Interesting now to see the debate that unfolded:

Starting at the HK416A5 and MR223A3 HK changed the geometry of the mag well basically to the standard AR15.

Magpul wants the USMC business (after USMC disallowed pmags) because their M27 is of the old pattern and could not use Pmag Gen2, hence Pmag Gen3 was changed to be compatible with old HK mag well.

I still have one of the original MR223 in my collection. They are slightly more accurate than the newer chromelined MR223A3.

Yes. I was in the same boat. I bought mine from Al Simmons when they first came out. Great gun loved the accuracy. Fun to use at the range etc. but as 416 uppers became more available the offset takedown pins were annoying. I actually preferred the non chrome lines barrel for many applications, but wanted more options at the time. It’s great to see the 11&14.5 barrel configuration now available as well. Wish the same happened in the US. Man HK took so long.

For the guys have had these rifles for a really long time, have you guys ever cleaned the gas system? How often is it needed? Every 5000 rounds? 10000 rounds?

Generally speaking I always wipe it down after use with a few patches through the barrel and reapply oil but I always wipe down the gas block and piston etc. nothing fancy and add oil ever 500rds. Lol.

Is the the piston system is similar to a G36? If so - don't worry about it! At least 10000 rounds and never touched it.

Just because the weapon can handle it doesn't mean it's a good idea to push its reliability limits.

Tiker depends on how much you shoot per session. If you are a low volume shooter once a year will do fine. If you practice 500 rounds a week once a month or before a competition will be a good schedule.
