HK45- which version to pick?

A regular DAO gun will have one (horrible) trigger pull. LEM is actually two different trigger pulls: one long pull if you let it out all the way, and a second short one if you catch the reset point.

Ever train a beginner to shoot a Glock? Once they are comfortable with the gun you let them know about the trigger "you don't have to let it out all the way" and you watch them take a long time 'hunting' and getting used to that reset instead of letting out the trigger all the way. If you don't let them know they will keep releasing the trigger fully as its natural.

The LEM has a longer stroke and less tactile reset then Glock so it's not exactly easy trigger to learn to use as designed. You let the LEM trigger out all the way and you will have a decocked hammer and a very long pull for the next shot, great for safety but bad for a range gun.

Again the LEM is a DAO trigger designed for one purpose... safety, not shooting ease, and requires more training to use properly. The DA/SA pistol when used as SA gun is much easier to learn, more intuitive, and better for the range.

The HK DA/SA system when used as SA only gun is a single pull. Take up is minimal and reset point is at the front of the stroke, not the middle like LEM. You let out the trigger all the way on SA mode? It will go as far as the reset point and no further.

Give a beginner an LEM pistol without explaining the trigger... How long do you think it will take for them to figure out that you can short stroke the trigger? I bet a very very long time and they will just use it like a regular DAO gun with long stroke and reset negating one of the main design advantages of LEM. Give that same person a DA/SA gun and there is nothing to figure out: let the trigger out, squeeze, repeat. No hunting for a reset point that's half way into the trigger pull, no learning how to short stroke.

if you ask HK they will tell you LEM is for LEO and carry. It is a very specific system that was designed to reduce negligent discharges in a high stress defensive situations. But for a range gun that is used in a low stress, target shooting and plinking enviorment LEM makes no sense. There is a reason the premium target shooting models: USP Expert, USP Match, USP Elite and the German and USA military adopted models: USP Tactical, P8, P10, P12, Mark 23 and HK45c all feature DA/SA triggers.

It kind of is... It's got a two piece hammer with the internal half precocked and the external half decocked in order to create an artificially long take up.

Why have a long SA(ish) trigger with very long take up if you can have a short SA, no take up trigger for the range. The take up is purely there for safety and needs to be 'trained around' for accurate shooting.

I've got to whittle this group down a bit. HK45 and P30 is SA/DA, P30L and HK45C are LEM. One or two more trips to the range and I should have a couple on the EE if these appeal to the OP.

FYI, i just installed an HK USP Match trigger on my Sand HK45 (full size). you can use all of the pieces of the kit except the trigger itself. it made a HUGE difference in the trigger. the trigger breaks so cleanly now! i highly recommend it

I am bumping this topic because I just converted my HK45CT V1 (DA/SA with safety and decocker) to a V7 (light LEM) same thing as LEM but I kept the lighter trigger return spring. The conversion was super simple to do. WIth a dental pick and a glock tool, once you know the procedure, it takes barely 15 minutes to complete.

Let me say that the LEM is MUCH better (IMO) than DA/SA. The trigger pull is consistent and light. Similar to a glock trigger.
