They are beautiful animals, had one in our camp site last year land on a low branch like 6 feet away, didn't make a sound. My girlfriend quietly pointed it out.
I doubt the owl ate the bread, being carnivores and all. He may have been eating what ate the bread...squirrels, chipmunks, mice, etc. Who (pun) knows, maybe he made a meat sandwich

yea I dunno who ate what but we have everything out there for all different types of animals I guess. Could of been my buddy, was wondering why there was a empty tub of peanut butter with a butter knife in it...2 more month's (and a bit) and its go time!
I love owls. They are the ultimate flying predator, IMHO.
I was once on a deer stand in a pile of round bales, and a great grey
Owl silently drifted in and perched on a fencepost only about 12 feet
from me.
I wish I had a camera!!! What a beautiful bird!!
He stayed there for maybe 5 mins, then spread those big wings and
flew off as silently as he had come.
If a deer had shown up, I probably would not have even seen it, I was so
enthralled by the Owl.
Running a skidder, the owls would follow along and catch the voles that came out of the drags. So every once in a while if you stopped for lunch at the right time, you'd have your lunch and the owl would have his.
