Hi guys. My brother is looking to get himself a non-restricted semi in .308. The thing is I don't know what to tell him. I love my Norc M14 and have tried to sell him on the idea of get'n one for himself but he want's something different. Other than the 858 and SKS, I don't really know what to suggest. Any ideas would be much appreciated? :dancingbanana:

he should start with a 22 and work his way up. he'll be flinching with a 308, even if it is a gas gun.

I totally agree with starting people on a .22 because I love .22s...but I can't imagine getting a flinch from an m14, I really find the recoil light. For instance, my extremely feminine, girly-girlfriend Erin started shooting on my m14, just wearing a t-shirt, and never got a flinch.

Maybe a big rifle would give a guy a flinch, but a .308? Maybe if you cut it down to 16", skeletonize the stock and run hot handloads through it, I guess.

Those aren't .308s.

They are chambered for 7.62 X 39.The bullet they use has a .311" diameter, NOT .308".

SKBY.

I'm not so keen on the 22. I learned to shoot with 5.56 and never had any issues. What I am looking for here is something that he can take hunting and use at the range. Those are the two reasons I ended up going with the M14. This would all be much easier if he just agreed to get one, but he wants something different.

Skullboy I appologize I was thinking of the M14 when I said .308 - the sks and 858 use the damned commi round as you have indicated

The starting with a .22 is no good, the shooter develops bad habits they can get away with when shooting a round with non-existant recoil, same applies for handguns. He should get what ever he wants and be done with it.what ever he wants
