I have an 'as new' Ruger SR1911 that I've decided to shoot. Some magazines that drop from my other 1911s will not drop free.

Is this a function of the mag release or the magazines?

Remove the slide and insert a mag looking down from the top....may just see where it is binding..trigger bow most likely..

There are three things that could cause magazines to not drop free from a 1911:

- the trigger bow
- the grips screw escutcheons
- the mag release

I have several spare mag releases, three of them large button types. I switched/mixed/matched mag releases and the same mags that would not drop from the SR1911 dropped free from the other guns. In the case of the SR1911, the same mags would not drop no matter what mag release was installed.

I have more 1911 mags than I want to admit, since I started becoming a "mag collector" back in the day of 7 rd mags so my testing was exhaustive. So I'm not any wiser.

Conclusion: I've got a few mags that are not compatible with this particular SR1911. Just gotta keep them separate.

Trigger bow O.K.? Did you try mags with the mag release out when you where trying different ones?
Maybe Ruger builds the mag well tight.

With the mags out..looking down the mag well...can you see anything protruding? Grip screws was a good idea too...I’m guessing that they are not double stack mags...Na...they wouldn’t even load...got a mag well?

With some mags the act of stuffing in the last rounds tends to bulge the mag a bit. Then they rub on things and won't fall free.

Maybe you have sprung the mag sides a bit. Typically, a fat mag hangs up on the trigger bow.
