Not sure if this has been asked before but has anyone ever bought powder from Canadian Tire. Their website has Hodgdon H4831SC 1 lb for $36.29. I can not find any stores that carry it around Sudbury.

The store in Langley has some powder. Not h4831sc, or i would be buying some. Not at all a bargain place. Availability of components is such that when one sees needed items....just buy it, hold your nose, hide the credit card statement. I just buy absolute necessity, dont stock up at their prices.

The Corp itself got out of the business of "sourcing powder" for all the stores (which are independently owned, kinda/sorta).

What they did in it's place is set up some agreements with a few powder suppliers/wholesalers to facilitate billing for the stores etc and then left it up to the individual stores to deal directly with these suppliers.

What this has done is:

an individual store can no longer simply order in (via the corporate ordering system) a few pounds of powder for an requesting customer,

requires the store to set up an account with the powder supplier, deal directly with them, pay their own shipping etc - the result of which means that no two stores will necessarily sell for the same price. Depending on what there "in their hands cost is" plus whatever they decide is a "fair mark-up" will determine the "on the shelf" cost IF they choose to carry powder.

Given that there is different suppliers for the same product, with different shipping rates and different distances from source to stores, you are going to see "quite different" prices from any of the Canadian Tire's that do carry/sell powder going forward - just like you do with any of the site sponsors here. There is sometimes advertised prices varying by $15 a pound.

That simply reflects whom they are sourcing from and when.

That makes sense as I've never seen any locally

They sell it at the shawnessy Canadian in Calgary, expensive, $50/lbs but that seems to be the going rate around here for the popular powders.
