Hodgdon Pyrodex RS in Antique Revolver

Just wondering if anyone is loading this in there Antique Revolvers, I understand you have to load them down. Thanks.

I personally use trail boss. Min load for the cartridge you are loading. Not corrosive and the o shaped grains fill a lot of the casing even at min load so you get proper ignition.

zouave: If your revolver is rated for black powder only, Pyrodex will be equally safe to use. The two powders are essentially the same in performance, etc.
If considering a reduced powder charge, Pyrodex requires some compression for good ignition, just like bp. So, use of wads or other filler to take up the extra space inside the cartridge, etc., needs to be taken into consideration.

I use Pyrodex in all my antiques. I load it by volume, same as BP. If you clean your guns soon after shooting, the residue comes off easily. If you let it sit for a few days, it tends to get "gummy" and harder to clean. I use a stiff bristle brush and paint thinner to remove the residue. Works like a charm. Apparently Unique and Trailboss are very good, too. Haven't tried those yet.

I save my holy BP for my flintlocks and use Pyrodex for everything else. Pyrodex is a LOT less expensive and just as easy to load as the real thing.

You can safely use black powder for reloading. With modern powders you need to be very careful and load much less powder.
In my 455 Webley I'm load only 3 grain of modern powder.
