I bought some H4831SC for my 300WM. I'll probably be loading 180's for hunting purposes. The can of powder says to go to Hodgdon's site for reloading data, but I don't see any listings for their SC powders.

Can I use the same reloading data for H4831 for H4831SC?

I notice on the can they list 73 grains H4831SC for a 190gr Hdy SPBT at 2923 fps. That is the same max they list on the website for that bullet with H4831, which tends to support the idea that you can interchange the powders, subject of course to working up a load.

Anyone know?

I don't know any more about it than you do, but my understanding is the only difference is that the short cut is not so dense, allowing more to be loaded in the case. H4831 is so bulky that it is often hard to get enough of it in the case.

4831sc

Acording to any of the data that I have the sc uses the same weights as the reg powder but affords a better loading density in certain cases , I use it in 7mm Mag and find it to be a very accurate powder !!!

H4831 and H4831sc are completely interchangeable. I've used both in the same rifles for quite a while with no problems. I still have a couple of pounds of the old H4831, and when it's gone it's gone for good!
Relax and load away.

I have switched from IMR "standard" extruded powders to both SC and SSC with known loads and have not altered the weight in any way. Somewhere Hodgdon (who now own or control IMR) specifies this. I tried SSC in my RCBS ChargeMaster but switched back to SC because of the fine granules of SSC quiet often ran overweight, probably due to the rotation speed of the drop tube.

When 4831SC first appeared I asked the same questions.

Pretty much everyone said the same thing i.e. H4831 and H4831SC were
completely interchangeable.

One voice of disent: One of the ballisticians at Sierra specifically said that the
H4831SC they tested, back to back with H4831 showed the SC to burn "slightly" faster, generating a little more pressure. The gent at Sierra suggested backing off 1/2 grain.

I use both. Can't say as I've noticed anything, buth then again, no standard receiver piezo-electric pressure equipment and no chronograph.
