Hodgen Universal Powder Potent and Flexible

Alrighty...Just got home, and realized that indeed Hodgdon has revamped the naming convention.
Both Clays and Universal are both made in Canada/Packaged in USA..I'm not certain about International..

I'm glad they're keeping the word "Clays" on only ONE of their products.
Thanks Ganderite.

Did you Chrony your loads?

I have never run a test of felt recoil of the same bullets at the same velocity with different powders. Logic says that if the bullet is the same, and at the same velocity, the recoil will be about the same.

Maybe the "harsh recoil" is just more velocity?

No I haven't chronied my loads, but I notice the change in felt recoil in different powders even with starting loads. Universal is snappy and sharp, Titegroup is snappy as well but less than Universal. CFE an WSF have an even push recoil that puts the firearm straight back into the hand right up to max loads. I'm not sure about the bald physics of it all but I know what I feel and I can see the difference in the groups on the paper. Certainly Universal shoots dirtier in all my firearms, making cleanup more of a chore than the other powders.
