I've seen several TV shows (Hogs Gone Wild, Discovery. American Hoggers, A&E) lately about the feral hog problem in the states and I have to ask why are they screwing around with live traps and keeping them alive after the dogs catch them? Why not just shoot the damn things asap?

my understanding is that they were selling them to shooting preserves and also some were in neighborhoods where no gunfire is allowed. One Hogs Gone Wild episode they stuck one with a knife after the dogs pinned it.

Lame shows, IMO, especially the 'tards on American Hoggers.

Yeah I've just found American Hoggers tonight and yep they are something special. I deffinatly understand the no gun fire areas but I've seen several eppisodes of Hogs Gone Wild where they've stuck em with knives and the feller in Hawaii using a bow. In what understanding I have these vermin are killed sooner or later I'm just ahveing a hard time understanding why more often it seems to be later rather then sooner?

I've seen mentioned that they will sell a truck full to a slaughterhouse for meat. Better to sell a truck full than to gut and field dress as you catch 'em. Better than letting them rot in the fields.

Alot of the Americans will take them home and put them on feed for a month or two to fatten them up before slaughter.

The heat in Texas can turn a downed animal sour pretty quick. Keeping them alive is the best way to keep them fresh until sausage time.
