ive heard quite a few storys of wild hogs in sask. im guessing these are escaped from farms? never really believed them or at least had any proof. has anyone else heard these storys?

Oh yeah, they are out there. Not everywhere of course but very real. I personally know of several guys who have taken multiple wild hogs, however I have heard of none being taken this year. YMMV.

I guy I hunted elk with last year shot one south of Nipawin, there was a "game" farm in the area with some type of Europan hog that had a few escape. There were also some in the Wood Mountain area several years ago but I am unaware of their origins.

Yes there are lots of them. I have shot 185 of them in the last 4 winters. They are a nuisance to say the least. So anybody who tells you that they don't exist are lying. The boars are mostly nocturnal now as they have been "pot shot" at by enough guys. That said, you find where they are and organize a drive on them; have guys posted on other end of them and you should be successful.
There have been sightings around Tobin lake, some trapped in the Pasqua Hills, even on camera by Cumberland House. I have had more of them on my cameras this summer.

Very important note, when you guys go after them, don't be stupid and leave some for seed. When you find a pod of them.... kill them all.

They are an introduced species with no natural predators here. Except us. There were strict regulations on the specifications for the containment fences the farmers were supposed to build but the agriculture ministry has admitted they have never made any attempt to enforce those regulations, so of course some escaped and they have done well for themselves in the wild. They destroy habitat and eat anything, including game like birds (young and eggs included) and fawns. SERM does not regulate them as a game species, they are a nuisance. No season, no bag limit, if you have permission to shoot on land (including the default permission that exists to shoot on Crown land if there are no bylaws or regulations against it) and you see a wild boar, it is legal to kill it as long as you are taking normal safety precautions.

Yes there are wild pigs in Saskatchewan but they can be very hard to find. The ones we hunt live in the deepest, darkest, nastiest coulees you can find. Here is a boar from last year. I guessed his live weight some where around 400 to 450 lbs. On the hoof he looked like a 45 gallon drum with legs.

And here is a shot of a group of eaters from a couple years ago.

I would luv to have those kinds of problems local to my house hell even province. I know they are bad news for farmers but what a blast it would be to hunt them.
Anyone out west care to have an Ontario boy out for a visit ?

There were some in the North Battleford area causing problems for some hog producers. Guess the wild boars like to go after domestic sows and leave no domestic boar unscathed.

Anyway, about 5 years ago now my uncle got one that had been harassing a neighbours domestic hogs. That neighbour has since stopped raising hogs. Haven't seen any wild ones in the area since.

I shot one here about 6 years ago, but they are getting pretty hard to find now. They have put a big push on getting them shot.

I had one little pig follow me all the way across a field while I was seeding two years ago. I think he thought he was chasing me away. When I got to the end of the pass and turned around he took off like a lightning bolt. I never have been able to get him or any of his brethren.

I shot a couple last year with my 17FB and there are some south of Melfort I hear.
