Hey there, I know that there are hogs west of Edmonton, and they even have a bounty on them. I have been told of the general area, but I am wondering if anyone can narrow it down a little bit for me. I am looking to go out and try to get a couple in the near future. Thank you.

P.S. If anyone wants to come along, maybe we could organize a "Fun Hunt"

a buddy was trying to organize a hog hunt this spring in Mayerthorpe, AB but it was an estate hunt (Hog Wild). There is also a company out of Caroline, AB running hunts (Savage Encounters). I imagine both locations have some feral hogs in the area.

Doing some reading, there are some not too far west of the city, out towards Gainford, I hope to narrow it down to a few square miles before going out, try to limit the searching.

Contact the RM offices in the area (or the local co-op's ;)) They should know who has a pig problem.

Why is it that the simplest answers are the ones that don't come to mind? Thank you.

If you get any and plan to cook one, refer to Game Recipes. It's a sub-forum to hunting here.
Search wild boar in this forum, and an excellent marinaded BBQ rib recipe comes up.

Good luck!

We are planning on eating them, that is the primary reason for going out. When I found out about the bounty on them, it was just an added bonus, a couple of pigs will pay for fuel. Closest thing to a "free" hunt available.

Good luck on your hunt. If you do find an RM that has problem pigs, have them send you an RM map ($2?). That will give you the names and locations of all land owners. Call them well in advance of your hunt. Try not to call when the work season is on, everyone gets busy. You'd be suprised how many land owners will let you hunt their property if you call ahead.

These hogs are on my list of things to eat. If you get a fun hunt going drop me a PM, thinking of lechon made from wild hog makes my mouth water!

Regarding the bounty program, I would contact Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development.
The bounty program is provincially funded, and I am unsure if this program is funded after December 31, this past year. And if it still is effective one has to fill out about three forms to collect the bounty through a rural county office that subscribes to the provincial program.

Cheers!

Had one of em show up at my work, about 2 km outside of Stony Plain.

I believe the boss called either the county or fish and game when it was staying around for a few days. Has not shown up for a few weeks, so it either moved on or they got it.

I spoke with Parkland County today, a very helpful gentlemen "suggested" to me where to start looking for them. He could not give me the exact location of them because of privacy issues. But he says most farmers are okay with you hunting on their property for them if they have a problem. So now that I have a location in mind, the footwork starts.

Might be a bit tricky to find them. they can be elusive believe it or not. whenever I come across them, it seems to be dark, and by pure random luck.....
They can be smart too.
If you want to have some success, you will need to pin point where the locals have been seeing them or having problems with them. Driving out to the bush looking for pigs will be a fun trip, but I fear you will have an empty truck box to go along side your empty fuel tank...

I wonder if you could drive them like pushing bush for deer. They have to be denning up somewhere.
