Wild hogs that have escaped breeders and are thriving in the wild have populated parts of Saskatchewan. Is a 7mm mag a tad large for a hog? What grain would be appropriate if 7mm mag is used?l
 
Well I don't know much about hog's, but I do know they have a tough 'armour' of hair and fat that might soak up alot of bullet energy. I would imagine a 140 or 160 grain bullet like a TSX, Partition or similar, tough constructed bullet would hold up just fine. Heck, even a cheapy 175 grain bullet would probably be tough enough to do the job out of a 7mm Rem.
 
We have them in our area too. Our wanna-be the next Federal Liberal /Gungraber neighbor found out there was work involved with raising wild boars and convieniently turned them loose. I have shot them with a .22,.22mag. .243,30-30 and 50 cal soot burner. They are not hard to kill,even the big guys but like everything else, bullet placement is the key element. Darn fine eatin' too. Its a great day when you can shoot a white tail deer in the morning and get some hog meat on the same day for making sausage...ST...

Too bad-kinda fond of bacon and sausages myself.:) (natives hunted them with spears first eh)
 
I am from New Zealand. There the rifle of choice was the good old 303. However, some disdained firarms and used a knife with a 14" blade called a pigsticker. Oh we also used dog's, a finder and a holder!

Great animal sniper! I was in a resteurant in Homestead Florida with Boars heads lining the top of the walls. Sort of like the Whikow bar with deer.
 
There was a show on Discovery about wild hogs and the farmer they featured shot one with a mini-14 and said he'd killed a number of them. So it doesn't sound like it takes excessive amounts of firearm to take one down.
 
I used a shotgun on them before, but we were purposely groundstalking them.
Plus I was accompanying an archer.

Next time I am going to use the Cold Steel boar spear, that I purchased form another CGN person.

Won't have dogs, so I like the comfort of some reach.

That lonely head mount will some day, have a big companion on the wall to 'hang' with. ;)

PS: Back40 sniper, your buddy will be pleased, that Mr Ugly, will make a fine wall ornament.

Well the camera lens tells all, even what the attitude is of the guy holding the camera too.......;)

I get the 1st honors of pigsticking.

Surely our roles/duties will switch around, after the first success.

And I am sure this will happen, next early to mid-spring, when there still is snow, for greater visibility.

This is key, as no dogs will be used. :D
