I have only seen these for $1300 and up...how would they not be a deal for around $1000?

That's actually a great deal. They are typically 1300-1600. Used ones go for 900+ in the last ten years the cheapest I've seen a new one go for is 1200.

I think $900 CAD would be a pretty good deal these days. Our dollar has plummeted so I'm doubtful you'll see many AR's for far below $1000
