Hollow bottom bullets

I've been loading 9mm 124gr Berry's to the tune of about 2000 or so now and I just noticed that Budget Shooter Supply now has the 124gr Hollow bottom round points in stock and I was thinking of giving them a try. THey are supposed to improve accuracy due to having more "bearing area".

Has anybody tried these before and if so, what did you think of them?

I think I'm gonna get 100 of them to try either way and post my review in a couple of weeks.
 
Loaded 1000 of their 185gr in .45 ACP that have worked great so far.
Basically the same profile as a 230 but in a lighter weight, gives more bearing surface (contact with the rifling) than a comparable weight bullet without the hollow base.

I like the 124 gr. HBRN bullets from Berry's in my 9mm,it most likely going to be my go to bullet for the foreseeable future as far as plated bullets go.

Another plus is that it has a thicker plating and according to Berry's can be fired up to 1450 fps. with no issues which will cover any 124 gr. Max. MV easily.

I did a little test group of 30 rds. using five each of the Berry's 124 HBRN and five each with Win. 124 gr. surplus 124 gr. FMJ's and three different powder charges. The 5.0 and 5.3 gr. loads of Power Pistol shot the big clusters while the 4.3 gr. load gave me the vertical spread and shots slightly above the main cluster. Sights were previously set for 115 gr. loads,I'll be doing more testing later this spring to narrow down the most consistent load.

I believe the idea behind them is that they are longer for the same weight bullet so there is more area in contact with the rifling or something like that. So far my bullet of choice has been their standard RN. But I've been pushing them pretty close to 1200 and Berry says thats the max so the 1450 seemed attractive

In lead, heeled bullets like .22 LR and .41 Colt expand to fill the bore upon firing.Not sure if jacketed act the same but some use 200gr Partitions in .308 dia in their .303 Brit's with good accuracy............Harold
 
I don't think these are hollow to obturate but just to redistribute the weight by making them longer like moosedude said.

Hollow base lead bullets and heeled bullets are two different types of bullet, although you could combine both features.
 
The cavety is quite small and the walls are quite thick--as stated above they are not going to obturate. The holow base move the centre of gravity foreward which can result in improved accuracy.
