Hollow-points illegal???

Im pretty sure he mentioned it was kept i in a safe when not home, kids may not have been an issue either. I dont know If I'd call it paranoid, he didn't come off as a fanatic, just a guy that put family as priority #1.

Three of us killed about 300 gophers yesterday using assorted HPs in several different calibers including .22, 22mag, .17, 223, and .243.

Your instructor is wrong. 30 some years ago, some twit civil servant decided HP's out of handguns, only, explode upon impact. Nothing whatever to do with importing or rifles. They have long since been shown the error of their idea.
This one is coming up almost as much as 'bear defence' posts.

Avilon 514,

Welcome to the mighty CGN!
Lots of good info to be found here (Also some rather opinionated opinions, but so be it...)
Anyway, have a look at the Newbie FAQ Section. The link is in my sigline below. Infact, the answer to your (now anwsered ) quiestion is in there.

Well, my family is priority #1 and the last thing I want in my house is flying lead when my wife and three kids are being sheltered from said lead by a few sheets of drywall.

Ok since we established that hollowpoints are legal to own... Does anyone know where to get Winchester Ranger 00 Buck shots 2 3/4'' and Winchester Ranger .40?

Bingo. Alot of people dont want to sell them to shooters because of the damage they can cause.

Hey OP... she go to waterloo by any chance?

-Brad

In my experience most gunshops DO want to sell hollowpoints to shooters precisely because of the damage they cause... to their wallets. I have never had any shop employee resist selling me hollowpoints unless they were sold out.

Our instructor specifically pointed out that the CFSC exam was WRONG on the point, and emphasized that hollowpoints ARE LEGAL.

Hp ammo was never illegal. The Fed. Gov. tried to make it illegal, but not through the firearms act. Customs tried to enforce a law that did not exist, and still do. There is no extra permits required to import, all the same permits. The USA may require additional info, but not Canada. This is just another miss information that has gotten out of hand.

As part of current events with NRCAN, I have been reviewing the explosives act and regulations.

Interestingly, HP HG ammo is still not allowed to be imported under the personal import permit exemption of 5000 rds. So NRCAN still seems to have a problem with it.

Just like Bullpup rifles and personal body Armour, Hollow Points are strictly prohibited in Canada and those caught with them will be subjected to extreme water boarding.
