Hollowpoint ammunition

i have non-restricted rifles in pistol calibers including 9mm and I hunt with them so yes the hollow point is different from the fmj. If I only shot paper then I wouldn't care.

Not too many people own non-restricted in 9 mm, so demand is low, low demand = low profits = nobody wants to stock the item...

I think stores would be surprised. I think a lot of people would buy them. Especially if they could stock some of the real high performance stuff that is available in the states. I know I would buy them. At my range we can shoot old tv's, computer monitors, pumkins, etc. etc. It would be kind of cool to see what a good hollow point could do.

I also live in the GTA, could you please tell me what range allows you to shoot old tv's, computer monitors, pumpkinks, etc.? I would love to join!

shooting my Beretta Storm in 9mm I switched to HP ammo long time ago. They are far more accurate, I mean FAR. What is miniscule for handgunner is a lot in carbine world, especially scoped one. Groups are cut in half over FMJ, and it happens in all bullet weights, 90, 115, 125, 147 grain. Reason is probably a bullet stability. Pistol calibers have somewhat slow twist and combined with anemic velocitues bullet weight distribution around axes of rotation becomes touchy matter. HP.s have weight distributed far out adding to gyro effect.

About cost - I never noticed the difference, HP's are hard to find but price tag at Lever for example is identical to FMJ.

The material that is taken out of the nose for the hollow point has to go somewhere since a 124gr. (example) round nose and a 124gr. hollow point both weigh the same. It goes of course into the longer bearing surface, which gives a greater contact surface area with the rifling.

Some gun stores talk to you like a criminal when you ask about it, a store in Moncton told me they were illegal to buy and basically not to ask around for them because of that.

I shoot almsot all cast lead bullets because the local range where I shoot with friends only has one lane that permits metal jackets.

When and why did the prohibition on hollow point hand gun ammo get dropped? Seldom do I see regs change in the right direction.

"...would an indoor club not allow the use of hollowpoints?..." Some indoor range back stops aren't rated for jacketed bullets. Some don't allow centre fire handguns at all.
