Hi all. This is my first post here and I'm hoping you can give me some feedback on tachticool sights. I just got a Norinco CQ this past weekend and I'm pretty excited about it. I would like to put some sights on it that allow me to leave the front iron sight on for later use. I have been eyeing the Vortex Strikefire w/ high mount, though I am wondering if the narrow field of view (VS an ACOG or holosight) from it would be an issue. Whatever style I go with, I intend to get a magnifier too as I want to be able to hit targets at more than 50 yards. The other thing for me is the budget is an issue too (need mags and ammo too). If you have some good affordable combos you can suggest for me I would appreciate it.

For mags - Questar Pmag bulk packs are hard to beat! ($120 for 6)

( They also have bulk packs for LAR10 mags as well if you want 10 rounds)

For Ammo - Canada Ammo/SFRC have bulk packs that will meet your needs at affordable prices.

This Bulk 1600 rounds of Norc 5.56 is $499... which works out to be .31 cents per round which is really affordable!

As for optics I would pick something that is going to meet your shooting needs, if your going to shoot 100+ yards don't hesitate to look at an actual scope with magnification. The only thing I will point out is that your jumping some serious price points when talking Vortex Strikefire and ACOG/Eo-tech + magnifier. You shouldn't have any issue shooting 50 yards with a red dot unless you have a 6MOA dot or some large reticle. I like the vortex, its a nice looking and good working sight. The Lucid series are another alternative in that price point that offer quite a bit for the money. Other options to consider are the Leupold MK AR ($360 IIRC ) which is not too much more expensive than the Vortex/Lucid and your talking a whole other level of quality, plus it is a 1.5-4X so it is good for 25 yard quick target acquisition as well as moving out to 50&75 with ease. Personally I love the look and function of the 20mm variable scopes, and while I do enjoy a red dot, I personally feel that a variable glass offers more benefit and more versatility.

Try some of the optics at your local store/range and see what you like. I run a variety on my AR and have tried everything from a Bushnell Tdot, Aimpoint to a weaver grand slam. I like different aspects about each of them.

Now that you have a rifle, you should start shooting CQB. This is the most fun you can have with your clothes on.

CQB accentuates speed of target acquisition and shooting accuracy. I have used both a Vortex SPARC and a 30mm 1-4 scope and found that both work very well.

But once I get onto a conventional range, the scope is far more useful. I can get a decent sight picture on any target out to at least 300 yards.

I have also used cheap fixed power 2.5X and 4X scopes, and they too worked well.

Red dot sights with magnifer....been there...done that.
For CQB (contact to 100 yards), nothing beats a simple red dot...you can spend a little or a lot...you, generally, get what you pay for.
For longer shots (100yards +), a low power fixed, or variable, scope eats the red dot + magnifer's lunch.
I've concluded that just about any of the 1-4X units is far superior to the combo, based on personal experience from numerous courses.

Yes get a 1-4x scope for more flexibility and value. You should look at the Millet 1-4x scope or Burris Tac30 1-4x, they are great entry level scopes to get you started with the matches.

I find a 3.5 moa (or smaller) red dot ideal out to 200m. I see no need for magnification, as generally, I would not engage a target past 300m with the platform I would put a red dot on. Scopes for rifles that reach out further, holo sights for guns that work best fast and close.
