I'm not about to blow 600+ bucks for an "eotech" type sight. I have been looking at Bushnell first strike and burris's fast fire. I like the burris having 4 moa as opposed to bushnell's 5 moa. That being said I like the bushnell's auto adjust brightness. If anyone has knowledge of either I'd love to hear it. Thank You
 
Pay the extra and go with the Burris.

My Firststrike won't hold zero on my 870 short barrel. Worked fine on a .223 though and also on the .22LR where it now sits permanently.

The auto adjust brightness feature is a detriment to me. Has been a problem when doing wildlife control at night; the sensor for the brightness of the red dot reads that it is a very low light situation and so turns the brightness way down, except that I have the area forward of the muzzle lit up with my 900 lumen flashlight and can't find the dot. I ended up holding the light in my left hand close enough to the sensor cell to make the dot bright enough to see.

A reflex sight is ideal for fast "action" shooting of raccoons as they race from one farm building to the next.
 
If you're looking at paying that much why not go for an Aimpoint or a Trijicon RMR? Both will likely be better quality that the Burris or Bushnell.
 
I have the Bushnell one and after a short stint on my 9mm AR it now sits on my 10/22. It's fine for a day out shooting grouse but I wouldn't trust it for much else. I like the auto brightness feature. It just seems like it would be easy to break and the nut to tighten it to the rail feels like the threads are stretching when I tighten it enough to keep it solid. I feel like it was a waste of money and that I'm not much further ahead than I would have been buying a POS off ebay.

Honestly, spend the money. I have an EoTech XPS on my 9mm AR now and an Aimpoint PRO on my 223 AR and they are both excellent. I recently did a CQB course using the AR with the Aimpoint PRO and couldn't have asked for a better sight. It held zero all day and I didn't need to worry about it getting bumped and being damaged. When it comes to optics you do get what you pay for. If you buy cheap stuff you'll just end up replacing it down the road and the $150-$200 you spent on the cheap one will have been a waste.
 
Eotechs are fine, as long as they are mounted on a G36. As the temperature changes, the Eotech automatically adjusts to accommodate the shift in point of impact from the G36. It is actually a design feature.

I have a fastfire and it is good, only thing I don't like is the on/off switch on the side where it can be turned on or off accidently. I also have a couple C-More RTS's that are really good and worth looking at.

Was shooting yesterday, and the dot on my Eotech was all but invisible in the bright sunshine. I far prefer my Burris Mtac over any red dot

This is a good plan. You should probably spend 900+ bucks on an Aimpoint. Or hold onto your sheckles for a little bit and spend 600+ bucks on the new Trijicon MRO when it hits the shelves. I know you don't want to drop a lot of money on glass OP. I get it, I've been there too. But once you do, you'll understand why it's worth it.

I read this too early on a Sunday. I thought the original post read "I'm about to blow 600+ bucks for an "eotech" type sight" instead of "I'm not about to blow 600+ bucks for an "eotech" type sight" so my comment above makes no sense--sorry!

Aren't the temperatures in question at such extreme ends of the thermometer that it's not an issue for anyone who isn't living working in Death Valley or the Antarctic?

LOL, sure, if you sight in at the north pole then fly to a tropical island you might have a couple inch shift. Don't believe everything the couch commando's write on the internet. I never need to adjust mine unless I mount it on a different rifle.
I can't decide which one I like better between my XPS 2-2 or my Aimpoint PRO. They're both worth the money if you want a quality sight.

What about the Holosun Red dots that Canada Ammo is selling?

I have heard good things about them for the price ($200-300ish depending on model)
 
Shawn is correct, those "couch commandos" would be USSOCOM; who have issued a warning, Eotech, who have changed their manuals and advertising claims; and L3 Communications (the parent company) who have made an SEC filing.
