Has any one mounted a holo sight on a AR15. Just got one and I want to put it on my AR going to shoot multiple targets. My AR is a flat top is it better to put it at the front of the rail or rear to get a fast sight picture. :rockOn:
 
I like to mount them as far forward as possible. Leaves room for a BUIS and it seems faster to me. Hell if I had a free float handguard I'd probably mount it there. Try it out both ways and see what you prefer.
 
Thanks Leg, thats were I have it now. I have done some dry fire with it both ways.But I do find when it is put closer to my eyes I seem to pick up the target faster.
 
I have an Eotech on my AR15 flat top and it's right in front of the BUIS. I like to be close to the optics. Don't mount it just "to be like others". Try diffrerent positions and keep the one that suits you best.

I do hear that I hope to get to the range this week and try different place ments on the rail. But when dry firring when its up close I do seem to target faster but we will see if I it the mark at that position.

How did you mount it? Any pics you'd be willing to post?

I bought an EOTECH 511 a few weeks back and tried to mount it on my shortie M305 which has a Rooster forward mount, but I'm having trouble because it looks like I'll have to cut out the handguard even more to fit the EOTECH's width. That will expose too much of the barrel IMHO and cause undue heat shimmer in rapid fire. :evil:

So, I ordered one of the Ultimak forward mounts which replaces the handguard completely. That should do the trick.

I mounted my Eotech at the front of the railed handguard, with a regular scope at the usual location. With the Eotech off, it is possible to see right through both optics. With the Eotech on, if both scopes are co-witnessed, you get a nice illuminated aimpoint in your scope.

With the scope off of the rifle, and the EO as far forward as you can get it, you shoot with both eyes open, and it is almost like a shotgun bead ...
VERY fast, and the EO does not block anything in the field of view. If you want some pictures, private message me with an e-mail address and I'll send you a few.

I too prefer the EO as far forward as possible. On my flattop I had it about mid point on the upper and was OK with it. I then got a railed handguard for my A2 upper, and for obvious reasons had to mount it in front of the handle. I liked it so much I moved the on on the flattop to the same position....

With the EOtech way out front like that, the outer circle is just the right size to nicely frame a standard target at 100m. Great for quick target aquisition...I don't even really concentrate on the dot, just use the ring.
 
I had mine way out front on an ARMS 45C rail, but I didn't like it. I've since moved it back to just in front of the back-up sight and that works great. I think it's a lot of personal preference.
