I like to mount them as far forward as possible. Leaves room for a BUIS and it seems faster to me. Hell if I had a free float handguard I'd probably mount it there. Try it out both ways and see what you prefer.

I mounted my Eotech at the front of the railed handguard, with a regular scope at the usual location. With the Eotech off, it is possible to see right through both optics. With the Eotech on, if both scopes are co-witnessed, you get a nice illuminated aimpoint in your scope.
With the scope off of the rifle, and the EO as far forward as you can get it, you shoot with both eyes open, and it is almost like a shotgun bead ...
