I'm wondering if anyone has any input where this optic is concerned. The good, the bad, the ugly if you will.

TIA

I have one, my experience and use is quite limited though.

The first one had a reticle issue OOTB with a small “gap” around the 1-2 o’clock position on the circle, but the CGN vendor and Holosun Canada were great to work with and sent me a new one without the “gap”, I’m sure it would’ve been fine to use though, but perhaps as a discounted item.

I chose the HS515GM over the HS515CM because of the top buttons even though there’s no solar failsafe. This is going on a 10/22 takedown and I can keep an extra battery in the Magpul stock. Overall I prefer the AEMS I also have due to the wider eye box and the riser “gap” which allows low profile cowitness through the “gap” better. Also, I find the killflash to be kind of distracting unless paired with the magnifier, but the killflash can be removed. I can’t comment on how well the QD will hold zero as I haven’t taken it out yet.

Here’s the reticle issue I mentioned (pic taken through HM3X magnifier as it was hard to focus without it):

i got a few CMs, they've been great. I have not put them through any crazy tests. One of my rifles with a 515CM fell off the shooting bench and landed on the paved floor. Not sure if it landed on the optic or not, but optic was not affected. I dont have anything negative to say about the optic.

I have a few of them and they are my favorite optics of that type. The reticle is VERY clear and the optic thus far has been rugged. I started buying them when they first came out and I now have three or four of them. I'd buy another in a heartbeat.

Thanks fellas, I bought one and so far love it. The very simple "shake awake" feature just made too much sense for me not to take the plunge. Well, that and comparing the price between this and an eotech or aimpoint...it's been great so far. No regrets, and no "small gaps" in the donut ring aboynamedsuita! Yours must have been a one off?

Glad that you like it so far! And yes, I think the first one was a bit off (possibly something slightly blocking the emitter?). I’m not sure if it was clear in my earlier post, but Holosun Canada and the CGN vendor in Ontario took care of things and sent me a replacement and return shipping label for the first, only encumbrance for me was waiting about a week, which is fine as I haven’t been in the mood to go out plinking with subzero winter temperatures. The Holosun warranty is solid. If they had offered a discount instead to keep it as a “B-stock” or similar I may have considered, as everything else appeared fine, but the first suggested course of action was to replace it.

Bit of an update on my replacement HS515GM. Decided to take the riser off (which comes installed OOTB), the first 4 screws (which connect the QD & riser to the optic) came off no problem, the next 4 (which connect the riser to the QD) had 2 of the 4 screws shear off lol. I don’t know if they were overtightened at the factory, but they were the 2 rearward screws (trying to think of from a physics/inertia standpoint that makes a difference but it’s been a long day lol), and they broke with out much force to loosen them.

I had to take a micro torch and pliers to get the remnants of the screw out. I’m going to contact Holosun Canada and see what they say, right now it’s no issue since I want to mount without the riser (that’s why I took it out), but if I change my mind in the future I’ll be short of screws to reinstall it.

Pics or it didn’t happen:

Sorry, a bit late to this thread, but just my humble two cents.

I have switched almost all my red dots to HS515GMs. Previously I had Vortexes (SparcAR and Strikefire2), which I did not like primarily due to the mushy buttons and the auto off interval of 12 hours or something like that. I moved to a Sig Romeo 5 for the shake awake feature, which I loved as well as the 2 or 5 minute auto shut off interval. I tried a HS515GM primarily due to both shake awake and also the rugged construction. It has been a great purchase. These red dots have the dot and reticle illumination (you can switch), the brightness settings were good, and the red dot was clear. It also seemed to hold zero extremely well. Someone convinced me to get a HS515CM for the solar backup, but I found for me anyway (just covered range shooting) pretty limited application. Plus, one of the better features of the 515GM over the CM was the see-through glass lens covers on the GM. I never need to flip them whatsoever (my CM has solid covers which I need to flip and one of the flip covers is now too loose to click in to place and stays flipped up).

I found the buttons easy to use and feels much more solid than the Vortex. I have both the higher and lower mounts on the different guns for which I use this red dot. I do like also the locking mechanism and the accidental detach prevention feature.

Overall pretty pleased.

I went with the purchase and it now sits on my Tavor x95. I simply love it and am convinced that in this area alone, China has us in North America beat. This optic is not only less expensive, it's better than anything I can find being made in North America. It pains me, but it's the truth. Now, if they can make a weapons light with shake awake we're talking...or if someone in North America (you listening Streamlight?) could reverse engineer the shake awake tech and put out rifle and pistol lights they'd make a fortune.

I’m curious why you’d want a light that has shake awake? Personally I’d rather have a remote pressure switch with the pad startgiclly placed so I can toggle it momentary or on/off as required.

Yeah wondering the same. I have a Streamlight (HLX or TLX or something like that) with the pressure pad and I put the switch on a rail piece that connects to MLOK and it is fantastic - the hand holding the handguard I have my thumb free to either activate tape switch with light burst or constant on. The only downside (at first, and it's my fault) is I keep forgetting which side I put the switch so when I go to the range and we clear our guns at line change and they close off the benches while we change targets with the cleared rifles pointed downrange, I have my light shining full power in my face as I keep forgetting to put the gun on the other side where the switch is not - at 1000 lumens, it's bright.

I heard stories told (USA) where things went bump in the night, and the guy who was asleep at the time said he didn't have time to turn his pistol light on...it was on like donkey kong right away. In that situation, I would think a light that comes on as soon as you pick up the gun, that still has the ability to toggle on and off (the Holosun can be turned on and off) would be where it's at?
